In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, players have the unique opportunity to carry over three pivotal choices from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Although Inquisition was released nearly a decade ago and does not allow for direct save file imports, players can still select key decisions made in the previous game. These choices will significantly influence the storyline as you interact with The Inquisitor later on.
This article aims to highlight the essential decisions that transition from Dragon Age: Inquisition to The Veilguard, enriching the gameplay experience.
Choices Transferring from Inquisition to Dragon Age: The Veilguard
In The Veilguard, players will create a new character, Rook, while also customizing The Inquisitor, who was the central figure in Inquisition. You can personalize The Inquisitor’s appearance and make choices that echo your past decisions in Inquisition, which will subsequently affect the unfolding narrative.
Here are the three key choices you can make that impact the storyline in The Veilguard:
1. Romance and Companionship
The initial choice revolves around the romantic relationship you established in Inquisition. Depending on your previous decisions, you can choose a romantic partner from the list below:
- Cassandra Pentaghast: Male Inquisitor only
- Dorian Pavus: Male Inquisitor only
- Blackwell: Female Inquisitor only
- Sera: Female Inquisitor only
- Iron Bull: Available for both genders
- Josephine Montiliyet: Available for both genders
- Cullen Rutherford: Human and elven female Inquisitor only
- Solas: Elven female Inquisitor only
2. The Fate of the Inquisition
Another crucial decision pertains to the future of the Inquisition itself. You will face a choice on whether to disband it to prevent potential corruption or allow the Orlesian Chantry to exert control over it, highlighting the governance and political dynamics of Thedas.
3. The Hidden God Dilemma
Your final choice is intricately linked to the Trespasser DLC from Inquisition. This option reveals the true identity of your companion Solas as the elven god Fen’Harel, also known as the Dreadwolf. You can decide to either thwart Solas’ plans or choose to save him from his destructive path, adding another layer of complexity to your narrative decisions.
Is it Possible to Import Save Files from Inquisition into The Veilguard?
Unfortunately, Dragon Age: The Veilguard does not support the loading of save files from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Players must instead make selections based on their previous choices, as the game was launched a decade after Inquisition, making prior save access unlikely for many. BioWare has designed this system to facilitate choice-making while preserving continuity with past decisions.
