This quest spans various engaging activities, from infiltrating a competing swordfighting hall to engaging in a tense tournament. This guide will walk you through completing Ars Dimicatoria.

How to Start Ars Dimicatoria in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Art of Fighting

To kick off the Ars Dimicatoria, head to the city of Kuttenberg and find the quest marker on your map. Near the northern armory, you will encounter Menhard von Frankfurt, distinguished by his red tunic and green hood, eagerly challenging passersby to a duel.

Engage Menhard in conversation, and he will invite Henry to participate in a duel. The terms require both fighters to take off their armor and use only blunt swords for the contest.

Before the duel can commence, Henry must remove all armor as mandated by Menhard’s challenge. Menhard will also propose a wager of 200 Groschen on the outcome of the fight. Once the terms are set, the duel begins.

As a strong competitor, Menhard will test Henry’s skills. It’s vital to leverage combos and precise Master Strikes to penetrate his defenses. However, the combat will be abruptly interrupted by the Kuttenberg Brotherhood alongside a city official. Despite the king’s endorsement of Menhard, the council will penalize him and impose a ban on dueling in the town.

At this juncture, Henry has the chance to intervene and influence the outcome. Should he choose not to speak up, Menhard faces exile, and the quest will come to an abrupt end.

Henry has three dialogue choices to support Menhard:

  • HARD: Claim Menhard is a friend of King Sigismund (Lie) – Coercion
  • HARD: Assert Menhard is a friend of King Wenceslas – Persuasion
  • HARD: Assert Menhard is of Noble Birth (Lie) – Scholarship

Opting for the persuasion route by stating that Menhard is a friend of King Wenceslas proves most effective and can prevent Menhard’s banishment, albeit with Henry having to pay the fine. Alternatively, he can argue that “Menhard didn’t break any laws.” After a successful dialogue, Menhard will invite Henry to meet him at the inn.

Meet Menhard at the Inn

The quest marker will now direct you to the inn, where Menhard awaits. During your conversation, he reveals his determination to defend King Wenceslas’s honor against the Kuttenberger Brotherhood, who have continuously rebuffed his dueling requests.

Menhard tasks Henry with breaking into the Brotherhood’s swordfighting hall to steal a guild sword, which he plans to publicly display at Town Hall. The mission demands stealth and efficiency, hence nighttime is the optimal time for execution.

Now, Henry embarks on a stealth mission to the Kuttenberg Brotherhood’s Swordfighting Hall located in the southwestern section of the city, recognizable by its red and yellow flags.

Infiltrating the Swordfighting Hall

Infiltrating the Swordfighting Hall

To increase your chances of success, target a timeframe between 12 AM and 4 AM when the surroundings are quieter. Don appropriate dark attire, stow away weapons, and consider using a Quickfinger potion to enhance lockpicking skills.

Approach the first entry point to the right of the swordfighting hall. Despite it being late, proceed carefully and avoid lingering. The door is secured with a hard lock, so successfully picking it opens the way. Remember to close the door behind you.

Entering the Swordfighting Hall

The next door, which lies directly left of the first entry, is also locked with a hard mechanism. Maintain a low profile as you make your way inside, as late-night visitors are generally sparse. Ascend the staircase leading to the guild hall to locate the guild sword displayed prominently against the back wall, centralized among four other swords.

Once you acquire the sword, exit the building undetected to ensure the quest progresses smoothly, avoiding any complications later on.

Exhibit the Sword at Town Hall

The Town Hall is situated centrally within Kuttenberg. Utilize the fast travel point to expedite your route. Make sure to place the sword on the outer wall discreetly. Caution is essential, as guards might be in the vicinity. Once successfully displayed, inform Menhard of the task’s completion upon your return.

Completion of the Stealth Mission

The following morning, the Kuttenberg Brotherhood will discover the sword, prompting another confrontation. Menhard’s scheme unfolds, leading to a challenge for a tournament that will determine control of the swordfighting hall.

To compete in the upcoming tournament and defend Menhard, Henry must establish his credibility first.

If anyone witnessed Henry during the theft, the Kuttenbergers will become even more formidable, as they will be allowed to wear armor during the tournament.

Before stepping into the arena, Henry should either have triumphed in the duel against Menhard or face off against Arne, another member of the Frankfurt Brotherhood, to secure his position.

Competing for the Brotherhood

Once Henry’s initiation is finalized, he will gain entry into the brotherhood, and the tournament will commence.

Prior to entering the competition, ensure that Henry’s health, energy, and nourishment levels are optimal. Approach Menhard to discuss the tournament details: the format consists of two duels within each round, with the goal of winning the majority of rounds to secure ownership of the swordfighting hall.

Tournament Format

Menhard will fight first, granting players a moment to finalize any last preparations. After Menhard’s duel, Henry will take his turn, followed by Menhard again and then Arne. The decisive fight will see Henry stepping in last, where victory will clinch the tournament.

Winning the Tournament

Upon winning the tournament for the Frankfurt Brotherhood, Menhard will request a few days to establish the swordfighting hall’s operations. After three days, the quest will update, allowing Henry to claim his rewards, including:

  • Master Menhard’s longsword
  • A key granting access to the swordfighting hall
  • Accommodation within the swordfighting hall
  • Access to swordfighting lessons from both Menhard and Arne
