How To Enter Rookwood Castle

Speak To Professor Fig

Rookwood Castle is positioned in the extreme southwest part of the map, at the heart of the Feldcroft Region. Engage with Professor Fig at the entrance to kick off the quest. If you successfully unlocked the Floo Flame in Feldcroft during the “In the Shadow of the Estate”mission, utilize it for fast travel. Head west to reach the castle, and when you approach, veer left towards the castle walls.

While stealth is an option to bypass the initial guards, prepare for an unavoidable showdown when a Loyalist Ranger ambushes you. It is advisable to deal with adversaries as they show up. Upon defeating the guards, employ spells like Accio or Wingardium Leviosa to move a crate towards the crumbled section of the castle wall. Use Levioso to lift yourself onto the crate and access the interior of the castle.

Once inside, you’ll witness a significant cutscene where Ranrok and Rookwood discuss their dangerous alliance, highlighting Ranrok’s awareness of the Keepers and Rookwood’s quest for Ancient Magic. After this scene, proceed to navigate the castle grounds, but brace yourself for a comprehensive ambush from Ashwinder enemies, including an Executioner and Goblin Loyalists. Start by ascending the stairs to your right and activate an Ancient Magic spot to generate a portal and a cube. Descend the stairs, ignoring the tall pillar, and use Accio to pull a box from the left corner of the room beneath the intended exit.

Place the box centrally between the Ancient Magic spot and the opposite wall. Then, cross to the other side of the central archway portal, pulling another box through the portal using Accio. Stack this second box on top of the first using Wingardium Leviosa. Enter the portal to solidify the boxes into a climbable pillar, allowing you to access the trial’s second phase.

Find The Hidden Symbol

After crossing the bridge, examine the Ancient Magic pool to move forward in the trial. To clear the path blocked by the pillar, locate a distant symbol in an alcove to the left and strike it; doing so creates a new segment of the bridge, granting access to a chest.

Next, approach the Ancient Magic sigil located just right of the archway. Many players often overlook the need for Basic Cast amidst numerous available spells, but it is essential to rotate the sigil, converting the immovable pillar into a movable cube. Use Accio to draw the cube through the gate and proceed around the portal to enter the third phase of the trial.

Use The Portal To Proceed

During the third phase of Charles Rookwood’s trial, players must follow the left path to continue, which serves as a brief respite before facing intensified challenges in the final stages. Be wary of the portals to prevent complicating the trial unnecessarily.

To proceed, check the Ancient Magic pool and utilize the portal to hit the sigil, rotating it towards the right path. Go to the blue side, then turn back to strike the sigil once more for advancement on the left route.

Use Portals To Reveal Your Enemies

In this demanding segment of the trial, players must effectively utilize two portals to tackle invisible enemies and reach the other side with precise maneuvers. As always, initiate the trial by activating the Ancient Magic pool.

As you take the left path, watch out for a hostile Pensieve Protector on a circular platform. The area is narrow, so maintain awareness during the fight as getting hit by blue shockwave indicators could lead to instant defeat.

Shortly after, additional Pensieve Sentries and Sentinels will join the fray. It is wise to eliminate these swifter enemies first to avoid getting overwhelmed.

Following the battle, interact with the Ancient Magic spot in front of the archway to hit the symbol through the portal. Move through the adjusted portal and utilize another Basic Cast on a symbol on the wall to reposition the portal, clearing a route to the opposite side.

After crossing to the left side, activate another Ancient Magic spot on the right to unveil the archway portal in the central room, revealing a pillar nearby. Drop into the center of the room and rush through the portal directly in front of you, as many foes in this trial require positioning on the correct side of the portal when facing them.

You’ll now confront two Pensieve Protectors, which are immune to damage until you switch sides of the portal. To engage the first visible protector, enter through the blue side, evading the second, still-invisible protector. Then, slip through the red side to confront the second.

Once both enemies are taken down, ensure you’re on the blue side (indicated by colored wisps surrounding your screen) and use Wingardium Leviosa to shift the box through the portal to the red side. Place it back on the ledge and switch back through the portal to the blue side.

This strategy ensures that both the necessary pillar and the ledge are simultaneously reachable. Climb the pillar, step onto the platform, and use a Basic Cast on the right symbol below to rotate the archway/platform again, allowing you to jump across the gap and exit the room.

Defeat The Hidden Enemies

In the climactic phase of Charles Rookwood’s trial, players face their greatest challenges. Descend the stairs and take a left into a room where a couple of Pensieve Sentries will come to life. Defeat these foes before moving into the next chamber, ascending the stairs, and entering a circular arena.

Once in the center, the archway portal activates, revealing two Pensieve Protectors, with one remaining invisible until you switch sides of the portal. Similar to previous encounters, take aim at the visible enemies first before dodging the attacks of the hidden ones. Move through the portal to confront the now-visible remaining adversaries.

After you eliminate all foes, a formidable Pensieve Guardian emerges as the final boss. Evade its powerful ground stomping attacks and counter the colored orbs it summons using matching magic before they reach you. During the second phase, time your parries to deflect its flail attacks that generate shockwaves throughout the arena.

Upon vanquishing the Guardian, a bridge will form, leading to a chamber featuring a grand statue and a Pensieve. Move towards the Pensieve to witness one of Charles Rookwood’s memories showcasing Isidora welcoming other professors into her home and displaying her magical talents.

Following the memory’s conclusion, utilize the Enchanted Stone archway to exit the trial and return to the Map Chamber. There, Rackham’s portrait and Rookwood will commend your accomplishment. You will also meet Niamh Fitzgerald, a former headmistress of Hogwarts, who will present you with the next major trial in Hogwarts Legacy.
