Upon unlocking the Spooky Swamp in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, players are introduced to the Nature Preserve, where they can house their collected critters. However, to access each room within this area—each representing a distinct biome—you’ll first need to obtain a Critter List.
The initial three rooms are relatively easy to unlock. The challenge begins with the fourth room, which requires the acquisition of both Flippers and a Snorkel. Notably, although players can locate the Volcano Critter List, certain prerequisites must be fulfilled before they can obtain it.
Acquiring the Volcano Critter List
Step 1: Increase Friendship with My Melody to Level 11
To unlock the Volcano Critter List, the primary objective is to boost your Friendship level with My Melody to Level 11. Make sure to complete all of her unique Friendship quests to achieve this.
My Melody has a preference for gifts featuring the tags Pink, Sweet, and Sleepy. One recommended option is the Pink Latte, which satisfies two tags—Pink and Sweet—and will yield double hearts when gifted. To create the Pink Latte, use the Espresso Machine located in Hangyodon’s Comedy Club and combine a Strawberry with the necessary Candlenut materials.
For quicker Friendship progress, consider using a Friendship Bouquet. This item resets the daily gift limit per character, allowing for expedited leveling.
Step 2: Engage with Keroppi to Start ‘Revive The Oasis’
After you reach Friendship Level 11 with My Melody, visit The Oasis located near Pompompurin’s boat in Gemstone Mountain. Speak with Keroppi, then follow him north where you will encounter a boulder obstructing a cave entrance. During this scene, My Melody will join your party.
If Keroppi is engaged with another quest, he won’t be available at The Oasis Fast Travel Mailbox. It’s advisable to finalize any tasks with him before proceeding to Gemstone Mountain.
Interact with the boulder, which will lead you into the caves where you’ll uncover the water source that is currently blocked. Eventually, My Melody will provide you with a Pickaxe recipe.
Step 3: Craft a Pickaxe and Head to the Preserve
The Pickaxe recipe requires 10 Woodblocks and 3 Ingots. Collect these materials and return to the Crafting Bench near Chococat to forge your Pickaxe!
- Woodblocks can be crafted with 5 Sticks or 7 Coconuts.
- Ingots are found in chests in mountainous areas or can be crafted from 3 Iron.
- Ensure you obtain the Ingot crafting recipe located in Gemstone Town, positioned left of the Dance Hall on a barrel.
Note that the Pickaxe is not an equippable item; rather, it will activate a prompt when you’re near objects suitable for mining or destruction.
You do not need to complete the ‘Revive The Oasis’ quest to acquire the Volcano Critter List, but it’s recommended to return to the caves and finish the quest afterward to restore water to the Gemstone Mountain area.
Step 4: Locate the Volcano Critter List in the Mountain Room
Once you possess the Pickaxe, return to the Mountain area within the Preserve. If you are tracking the Volcano Critter List quest, the Guiding Light will indicate its location toward the left side of the entrance.
The Volcano Critter List is encased within a boulder situated in the center of a flat area on the left side of the room. Approach it and utilize the Pickaxe prompt until the boulder is destroyed.
After the boulder is shattered, the Volcano Critter List will appear, allowing players of Hello Kitty Island Adventure to finalize their Specimen List and complete the ‘Restoring the Preserve’ quest.
