Season 5 of Star Trek: Lower Decks premiered with its first two episodes streaming on Paramount+ as of October 24, 2024. Subsequent episodes of this animated comedy series for adults will be released weekly every Thursday, culminating in the tenth episode airing on December 19, 2024.
Created by Alex Kurtzman, who has a profound connection to the Star Trek franchise as both a writer and director, this series takes a lighthearted approach within the beloved universe. Kurtzman also has experience with major franchises such as Transformers (2007), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and The Mummy (2017).
The highly anticipated trailer for the final season was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024. Mike McMahan developed Lower Decks, which made its debut in 2020 on CBS All Access (now Paramount+), providing a unique twist by centering on junior officers over the typical senior command structure seen in earlier Star Trek series.
Set in the year 2380, Star Trek: Lower Decks portrays the everyday experiences of officers aboard the USS Cerritos, a Starfleet ship tasked with “second contact”missions—focusing on follow-up activities rather than high-stakes exploration endeavors.

Beckett Mariner, animatedly brought to life by Tawny Newsome, is characterized by her rebellious nature and high energy. 2) Brad Boimler (voiced by Jack Quaid)
Portrayed by Jack Quaid, Brad Boimler is an earnest ensign whose personality contrasts sharply with that of Mariner. He is rule-abiding, often anxious, and strives to uphold protocol. His awkward determination and desire to climb the Starfleet ranks lead to comedic and chaotic situations when paired with Mariner, a focal point of the narrative.
Quaid gained recognition through his role as Hughie Campbell in The Boys, along with appearances in The Hunger Games (2012) and Oppenheimer (2023).
3) D’Vana Tendi (voiced by Noël Wells)
D’Vana Tendi, an Orion ensign voiced by Noël Wells, serves in the medical division of Starfleet. Her cheerful outlook and thirst for knowledge stand in stark contrast to the more cynical views of her fellow crew members.
Noël Wells has made notable appearances in series such as Master of None and Saturday Night Live, as well as voicing Kelsey Pokoly in Craig of the Creek.
4) Sam Rutherford (voiced by Eugene Cordero)
Sam Rutherford, voiced by Eugene Cordero, is an engineer aboard Starfleet with a unique cybernetic implant that helps him manage his memories and perception. This endearing character often confronts the quirky behavior induced by his device.
Cordero is recognized for his roles in Loki, Kong: Skull Island, The Mandalorian, and The Good Place.
