Complete the Tortoise and Hare Challenge in Phasmophobia: A Guide to the Tortoise Strategy

Engaging in Phasmophobia’s challenges can impose strict limitations on your gear while amplifying ghost behaviors to formidable levels. Yet, the rewards often make these challenges worthwhile.

One notable challenge is the Tortoise and the Hare: Tortoise Challenge. To maximize your success and reap the benefits, it’s essential to understand the mechanics behind it.

Understanding Challenge Mode in Phasmophobia

Challenge Mode introduces a fresh weekly task in Phasmophobia, assigning players a distinct contract at a specific location, equipped with a predetermined loadout. This setup prevents any alterations to your loadout, ensuring a unique gameplay experience. Players can keep track of the current week’s challenge through the Main Menu under the ‘Weekly Tasks’ column. Successfully completing up to ten challenges grants players three achievements: Challenger Approaching, Rise to the Challenge, and Taking All Challenges.

Participating in each Challenge Mode offers a base reward of $5, 000, in addition to earnings from identifying the ghost and achieving optional objectives. This makes it one of the most rewarding activities in the game, rivaling the completion of contracts on higher difficulties like Insanity or Nightmare.

To fulfill the Challenge Mode requirement, you must successfully complete the designated contract three times within that week. These completions do not have to be consecutive, but they must occur before the reset on Sunday, when all Weekly Tasks are refreshed. Over **two dozen different challenges** exist, including unique ones such as the Glow in the Dark Challenge.

To initiate the current Challenge Mode task, select either ‘Singleplayer’ or ‘Multiplayer’, based on your preference to play solo or with friends. Navigate to the ‘Difficulty’ setting to find the ‘Challenge Mode’ option, where you can check the specific challenge details and your progress. After confirming your selection by pressing ‘Apply’, head over to the Locations board to identify the challenge map and get ready for your mission.

The Tortoise and the Hare: Tortoise Challenge presents a unique difficulty primarily on the Grafton Farmhouse map. To complete this challenge, you need to finish it three times on this specific map.

This challenge’s parameters contrast sharply with its counterpart, the Tortoise and the Hare: Hare Challenge, creating a thematic pairing. The official description states: “After last week you’re feeling a bit worn out, and to make matters worse, the ghost has recovered!”This indicates that players face a significant disadvantage here.

For the Tortoise Challenge, your character’s movement speed is reduced to 75% of the normal rate, whereas the ghost’s speed is ramped up to 150%. Consequently, players cannot depend on the ghost’s speed to aid in identification.

While hunt durations are generally shorter in this scenario, a player’s death during one can extend the duration, leading to possible chain kills. When playing collaboratively, it’s prudent to maintain distance to prevent multiple players from falling victim to the ghost at once.

Additionally, the ghost in this challenge may frequently change its favorite room, mirroring the unpredictability seen in Professional Mode or higher. If ghost activity seems stagnant in expected areas, it’s advisable to investigate adjacent rooms. A further complicating factor is that most doors in the Grafton Farmhouse will begin in an open state, inhibiting their use as early indicators of a ghost’s presence. However, elevated ghost activity can still offer clues for players.

The provided loadout for this challenge consists entirely of Tier 2 equipment, excluding two Firelights, which hinders sanity retention. Note that testing for an Onyro ghost is impossible due to the requirement of three Firelights.

A random Cursed Object will also spawn on the map. Players interested in utilizing it must seek it out. Moreover, the Breaker (or Fusebox) starts in the ‘on’ position, allowing you to utilize the lighting within the map.

Leverage all available resources wisely and consider teaming up with friends for quicker equipment transportation and ghost identification. Your teammates can also provide vital support to ensure everyone’s safety during encounters.
