In Tormented Souls 2, players encounter a range of combat challenges that are generally straightforward, as most enemies can be dispatched with just a few shots. The game’s true test, however, resides within its intricate puzzle mechanics, which are famously challenging and require keen problem-solving skills.
A prime example is the rotary phone puzzle. This particular enigma requires players to input a sequence of numbers derived from a somewhat obscure hint. Many players, myself included, have faced hours of frustration due to the cryptic nature of the clue. To spare you the same ordeal, we’ve crafted a comprehensive guide to navigating this puzzle successfully.
How to Solve the Rotary Phone Puzzle in Tormented Souls 2

Before players can tackle the rotary phone puzzle, it’s crucial to first locate the phone dialer, which is essential for interacting with the rotary phone.
Finding the Phone Dialer

The dialer is concealed within the Torture Museum, obscured by hanging chains. To reach this location, descend the long staircase at the Museum’s entrance and take a left at the bottom. Proceed through the dimly lit hallway of the Museum until you find a door leading to the Torture Museum.
Upon entering, descend the small staircase and navigate through a cluster of chains to reach a different room. Here, you’ll find the dialer situated on a cart next to a door.

While in this area, be sure to collect the torn page from the phone book. This torn page is critical as it contains vital information needed to unravel the rotary phone puzzle.
Rotary Phone Puzzle Solution

With the dialer and torn phone book page now in your inventory, you are ready to solve the challenging rotary phone puzzle.
Return to the rotary phone located on the top floor of the Library in the Convent area. Once there, position the dialer onto the rotary phone by dragging it from your inventory, allowing you to engage with the puzzle.
The key to solving this puzzle lies within the yellowed page of the phone book, which features several numbers. The objective is to merge numbers from the front with markings from the back to form a new sequence. Essentially, you will need to combine these elements creatively.
For instance, if the front of the page shows “1041” with a dash, and there are markings like an “X” on the back, you should interpret that combination to create a new number. The dash might represent an asterisk, corresponding to a digit on the rotary phone.
Once you’ve correctly combined the components, the resulting sequence will be 3890*. Inputting this combination into the rotary phone will trigger a revealing mechanism, unveiling a painting on the wall directly opposite the phone. Behind this painting lies a Jade Disc, which is used in conjunction with the Jade Cross for another puzzle later on in the Convent.
