Complete Recap of Outer Banks Season 3: Essential Details to Remember Before Season 4 Premiere

The third installment of Netflix’s action-adventure series, Outer Banks, was created by Shannon Burke, Josh Pate, and Jonas Pate. Set against the stunning backdrop of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, this season immerses viewers in a thrilling treasure-hunting narrative, showcasing the intense rivalries between the impoverished Pogues and the affluent Kooks.

The inaugural season of Outer Banks debuted on April 15, 2020, followed by a second season that launched on July 30, 2021.

Currently, the most recent season available is Outer Banks season 3, which premiered on February 23, 2023. Fans can anticipate season 4 of Outer Banks, which will be released in two parts — the first on October 10, 2024, and the concluding part on November 7, 2024.

In Outer Banks season 3, the adventure kicks off with the Pogues finding themselves washed up on a deserted island they dub “Poguelandia”after a failed attempt to steal the Cross of Santo Domingo from Rafe and Ward. The Pogues’ respite on Poguelandia is short-lived as they soon encounter a pilot named Jimmy. When John B, Sarah, JJ, Kiara, Pope, and Leo board Jimmy’s plane to escape, they quickly realize his intentions are far from friendly, as he had plans to abduct them.

After forcing Jimmy to land in Barbados, the majority of the Pogues manage to escape; however, Kiara falls into the hands of Jimmy, who takes her to a dubious associate — the notorious Carlos Singh. It isn’t long before Kiara discovers Carlos has connections with Rafe.

Meanwhile, as Ward recuperates from his injuries, Rafe collaborates with Rose to auction the cross to the highest bidder, under the insistence of the buyer to be present in Barbados. That buyer turns out to be Carlos Singh himself.

Carlos Singh is revealed to be on a quest for the fabled city of El Dorado, and securing the Cross of Santo Domingo is essential for his plans. This artifact was among the treasures taken by the crew of the Royal Merchant, and the diary of Denmark Tanny, the sole survivor of that expedition, may hold the key to finding El Dorado.

In a twist of fate, Kiara and Rafe manage to break free from Carlos’s control, and she rejoins the rest of the Pogues, except for John B.

John B, however, reunites with his father, Big John, during his search. Big John possesses a vital artifact required to locate El Dorado — a half of the Signpost of Orinoco, with the other half’s clues found in Denmark Tanny’s diary.

The Grand Finale of Outer Banks Season 3 at El Tesoro

The tension mounts in the climactic moments of Outer Banks season 3 as Ward, Big John, and the Pogues make their way to El Tesoro. Utilizing the completed Signpost of Orinoco and the insights from Denmark Tanny’s diary, they attempt to uncover El Dorado’s path. Yet, Ward’s betrayal leads Carlos Singh’s men to their location.

This results in an intense shootout, during which Big John suffers severe injuries and is left behind. Before his departure, however, he passes along critical information to John B and Sarah, enabling them to pinpoint El Dorado’s site.

After seizing as much gold as possible, the group makes a hasty escape, only to be confronted by Singh, who has taken Big John hostage. A diversion caused by an explosion momentarily distracts Singh, sealing off El Dorado’s entrance. The ultimate showdown sees Ward sacrificing himself to eliminate Singh, while Big John tragically succumbs to his wounds during their escape.

The season concludes with the Pogues returning home, where they are approached by a mysterious benefactor who mentions a captain’s log once belonging to Blackbeard, hinting at the thrilling adventures that lie ahead.
