At long last, players can dive into the captivating world of Hollow Knight: Silksong, with the Moss Grotto serving as the gateway to this adventure. This area teems with vibrant flora and is bustling with various enemies for you to confront, giving you an early glimpse of the exciting new elements within Silksong.
The Moss Grotto acts as a fundamental tutorial space, leading players through initial challenges while showcasing the game’s first boss and a handful of collectibles. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll navigate through the Grotto together, uncovering enemies, hidden secrets, and ultimately confronting the formidable Moss Mother.
If you’re just starting your journey in Silksong and could use some assistance, you’ve come to the right place.
Entering the Moss Grotto
Your adventure kicks off by gaining control of Hornet, the game’s main character. Right after this, you should take a step back to explore a hidden cave on your right, where you’ll discover your first stash of Shell Shards. While their immediate use may not be apparent, these shards are essential for enhancing Hornet’s needle and weapons, so pick them up for later.
As you progress, use your needle to cut through the vines obstructing your path. After a few swings, you’ll break free and officially enter the Moss Grotto.
Welcome to the Moss Grotto
You’ve now stepped into the heart of the Moss Grotto, where your Silksong adventure truly begins. Start exploring by moving forward and to the left, taking down the small grubs along the way. Although they require two hits to defeat, they pose little threat.
Continue onward until you reach a gap filled with stones and water; this area is safe for swimming. Cross the gap to encounter a unique bone bridge, under which lies an underground passage leading to the next section of the Grotto.
As you climb, look for floating platforms above you. Hopping across these will guide you to the next part of your quest.
Confronting New Enemies and Developing Strategies
As you ascend, you will reach a cliff edge where you can grab your first Mossberry, noted for being toxic to your foes. Be prepared for a new flying adversary as well; the ideal strategy involves waiting for them to dive down before retaliating with a series of precise strikes from your needle.
After defeating these enemies, explore to your right to find the next section. However, Hornet may experience a mysterious pain during this segment. Press onward despite the discomfort.
Before jumping across the next gap, check below by pressing down on the D-Pad. You’ll spot a Frayed Rosary String waiting on a lower ledge—an excellent reward for your curiosity. Should you feel like you missed something previously, you can return to the bottom of the Grotto by jumping.
As you forge ahead, the environment begins to shift, introducing a lively new enemy. These agile creatures roll across platforms, so a nimble dodge followed by three quick needle strikes will quickly dispatch them.
Reaching the First Bench
Utilizing the floating platforms will lead you to a Mossberry that is tantalizingly out of reach for now. Instead, direct your focus to the left and traverse the gaps—remember, falling into the pits will take you back to earlier areas if you wish to explore them again.
As branches and leaves block your route, use your needle to clear them away and swiftly make your way into the Ruined Chapel. Hornet will again feel the effects of her mysterious pain, but a welcoming bench awaits at the far side of the room. Use this opportunity to save your progress and heal before proceeding.
Ascend further, cutting through the final clutches of vines, and you’ll arrive in the boss chamber. Here, you’ll battle the Moss Mother, an encounter that should be manageable. For those who need extra assistance, we have a detailed guide available.
Finding Refuge in Bone Bottom
Once you’ve triumphed over the Moss Mother, ascend through an open column only to be struck again by that overwhelming pain. After Hornet passes out, she is revived by the Chapel Maid, who gently reminds her that the adventure is only just beginning.
Further along, you will arrive in Bone Bottom, the game’s inaugural town. Much like Dirtmouth from the original Hollow Knight, this area allows players to prepare adequately for the trials that lie ahead.
