In the realm of Path of Exile II, players encounter a diverse and intricate experience, particularly in Act 4. This segment of the game takes adventurers across various islands as they seek components of a potent weapon designed to combat corruption. The level of freedom in selecting your next destination can be exhilarating, yet it may also lead to some confusion, even for veteran ARPG enthusiasts.
One of the challenges players face is the uncertainty of where to head next. If you find yourself in possession of a significant quest item but are unsure of your next move, I am here to guide you through the process, ensuring that your inventory remains unburdened as you progress in the campaign.
Discovering Whakapanu Island

Your first objective upon acquiring a ship should be to navigate to Whakapanu Island. This location is notorious for its formidable foes, including the imposing Elephant Tortoises that roam the jungle, posing a significant threat to unsuspecting players. The design of this island is challenging, featuring a labyrinth of narrow paths, which can catch players off guard.
Remain vigilant for any Abyssal Events that may trigger, as the confined spaces of the map can quickly become overwhelming!
While there’s a cave on the island leading to the formidable Diamora, Song of Death boss, it’s prudent to hold off on that challenge for now. Instead, explore further until you come across a distinctive large circular arena that offers a breathtaking view of the ocean. Approaching the rocky entrance will initiate a confrontation with The Great White One.
Confronting The Great White One

This boss encounter is relatively manageable as long as you maintain your distance. The Great White One primarily inflicts physical damage, eliminating concerns over elemental resistances. To enhance your mobility, consider equipping boots that increase movement speed. This will be advantageous regardless of whether your combat style is melee or ranged.
Attack Name |
Description |
Avoidance Strategy |
---|---|---|
Claw Swipe |
The Great White One will snap its claw at you, often doubling back to catch you from behind. |
Roll to the boss’s left side or back away just out of reach to evade this attack. |
Tail Whip |
This attack involves a forward lunge followed by a spinning tail swipe, creating a cloud of dust that obscures visibility. |
Stay behind the boss to avoid the brunt of this attack, capitalizing on its forward momentum. |
Biting Leap |
If you maintain distance, expect a jump towards you, with a chance of a powerful bite or a dive into the sand. |
Easily dodged by rolling sideways or directly under the boss. |
Surprise Attack |
While the boss swims underground, it can surface to deliver consecutive bites, leaving behind pools of harmful fish. |
Keep moving and sprint to evade, aiming to have the boss emerge in the same location to limit fish pool spread. |
Desert Storm |
His ultimate attack involves a vortex emerging from the ground, which will spawn smaller tornadoes across the arena. |
Maintain distance from the vortex and redirect the tornadoes until they dissipate, allowing you to safely attack the boss. |
Upon successfully depleting The Great White One’s health, expect a reward in the form of a Shark Fin, pivotal for your next steps.
Locating Kaimana

Your next destination is the settlement of Ngakanu, where you will find Kaimana situated to the east. She’s conveniently located near the boat’s disembarkation point, making it easy to reach her.
Engage her in conversation fully before handing over the Shark Fin. Upon completion of this task, Kaimana will provide you with a choice between three different gems:
- Level 11 Skill Gem
- Level 11 Spirit Gem
- Level 4 Support Gem
Select the gem that aligns best with your needs, but the Spirit Gem is often recommended due to its relative scarcity.
