Initially launched in 2016, Stardew Valley stands out as one of the most engaging life-simulation games available today. Despite its age, the game continues to receive frequent updates, enhancing the player experience. The recent 1.6 update released in March introduced three new festivals, including the much-loved Trout Derby.
The Trout Derby is hosted in Summers, where players must gather Golden Tags attached to Rainbow Trout for exciting rewards. In this article, we’ll explore the details of the Trout Derby and how you can get involved.
Trout Derby: Location and Schedule in Stardew Valley
This beloved fishing festival takes place on Summer 20 and 21 from 6 AM to 2 AM at Cindersap Forest in Stardew Valley. During this mini-festival, players can continue to explore other areas of Cindersap Forest. Notably, aside from Willy, no other villager engages in the festivities.
How to Join the Trout Derby
To participate, catch Rainbow Trout in the river located in Cindersap Forest. During the Trout Derby, there’s a high chance that the Rainbow Trout will come with a Golden Tag, which can be exchanged for rewards at the festival booth. You will automatically receive Golden Tags upon catching the fish or they may appear in the Fishing Treasure Chest.
You can create Rainbow Trout Bait by using a bait maker or purchase it directly from Willy’s Fish Shop. The Sonar Bobber will alert you once a Rainbow Trout is caught.

To claim your Golden Tags, visit the booth near the River during the festival, as the booth will not be available post-festival. The first Golden Tag you exchange rewards you with a Tent Kit, followed by a chance to receive any of the following items:
