The Singing Blade quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard serves as a significant follow-up to the events surrounding Solas’ ritual. In this intriguing adventure, your main objective is to track down a ghoul that has stolen the dagger used by Solas during his dark rituals. While the quest unfolds in a direct manner, players may encounter puzzles that can prove challenging without proper guidance.
Initiating the Singing Blade Quest
To embark on the Singing Blade quest, you must speak with Strife and Irelin at Shadows Crossing following Solas’s Ritual. They will instruct you to return to the Ritual Site, where Solas previously mislaid the Lyrium Dagger, and retrieve it before it falls into the hands of the Evanuris. Upon your arrival, you will converse with Harding, who is still grappling with her role in the aftermath of Solas’s actions.
During this dialogue, you will have three options to choose from. Opting for the response “We all carry blame” will garner favor from both Harding and Neve. However, feel free to select other responses if you’re not pursuing a romantic angle with either character, as they won’t influence the quest’s outcome.
Navigating the Ruins: Completing the Singing Blade Quest
Upon reaching the ritual grounds, you’ll notice signs of chaos and disturbance. After descending from the scaffolding on the left, you will encounter a Darkspawn ghoul that clutches the Lyrium Dagger. The creature will flee upon spotting you, necessitating a pursuit into the depths of the ruins.
Your journey through the ruins begins with clearing a Blight growth obstructing your path. Ascend the stairs where you will confront a larger Darkspawn descending through a crumbling archway. After defeating this enemy, approach a formidable metal gate that requires a Beam Generator for access.
Locating the Beam Generator
To unlock the gate, start by dismantling the wooden barricade straight ahead, which will reveal a narrow passage in the wall. Slip through this opening and loot the ledge on your right. Continue along the fractured path until you discover the Beam Generator. Once activated, direct the beam toward the energy node situated above the gate to gain entry.
Dealing with the Blighted Bridge
Advance into the next area and collect any scattered loot before moving toward the clearing. Here, a swarm of Darkspawn will emerge from Blight pools, forcing you into combat. After dispatching them, you’ll have to navigate yet another Blight barrier to continue your pursuit of the ghoul.
Keep following the creature until you reach a bridge obstructed by a complicated Blight puzzle. To resolve this, destroy the visible Blight node on the left and cross the bridge. Next, remove the power crystal from the bridge’s mechanism, causing it to retract and expose an additional Blight node beneath. Eliminating this node significantly weakens the central Blight mass, allowing you to clear it entirely. This action will eventually reveal a passage leading to a chamber housing another elven mechanism.
Retrieve the power crystal and place it into this mechanism to unlock the door ahead, continuing your quest.
Optional Puzzle: Unlocking the Treasure Chest
As you draw near to the dagger, you will encounter a locked gate concealing a treasure chest. This area features an optional puzzle requiring two Beam Generators for its resolution.
Begin by eliminating the Darkspawn foes nearby. Then, locate the first Beam Generator positioned above the stairs and direct it towards the energy node on the right side of the gate. To find the second generator, dismantle a wooden barricade found in a nook to the left of the gate.
Go through the discovered crack, ascend a nearby ladder, and utilize a fallen column to jump over to the platform hosting the second generator. Aim the beam at the remaining energy node to unlock the gate. Inside the chest awaits a weapon and gold, and additional loot can be obtained by climbing another ladder nearby.
Confronting the Lyrium Ghoul
After tackling the optional beam puzzle, return to the main path. Following a traverse through a ravine and dispatching more enemies, you will finally corner the ghoul holding the Lyrium Dagger. This initial confrontation is straightforward; focus on dodging and countering its attacks.
The ghoul primarily affects you with necrosis within a cone-shaped radius while delivering claw strikes that are simple to evade. Upon its defeat, a cutscene plays showing your brief reclamation of the dagger, unveiling that Harding has absorbed enigmatic powers during the exchange.
However, the battle continues. More Darkspawn will emerge from nearby Blight pools, and the ghoul returns, now with heightened aggression and a Blight shield. This time, it will use the Blight pools to teleport around the arena, complicating your attempts to pin it down. Maintain your earlier strategy while adapting to its teleportation patterns.
Rewards for Completing the Singing Blade Quest
Once you claim the Lyrium Dagger and vanquish the ghoul, you will be returned to the Lighthouse for a series of dialogues. During these exchanges, Harding reveals her newfound abilities. Selecting “You’re not a problem” can initiate a romantic storyline, while “Just make sure to aim” will earn her favor without pursuing romance.
Completing the quest yields the following rewards:
- Experience Points: 1,850 XP
- My Regards Shortbow (a gift for Harding)
- Gold: 300 pieces
Completing the Singing Blade quest is essential for enhancing your character’s power and fostering deeper relationships with Harding.
