Complete Guide to the Fires In The Mines Quest in Avowed

The Fires in the Mine quest marks one of your initial side missions as you explore the Shatterscarp region in Avowed. Upon arrival at Eagle’s Reach, an Aedyran soldier informs you about the challenges faced while attempting to reopen an abandoned sulfur mine located in the Deadfall Highlands. This effort has been hindered by a horde of spiders residing within, leaving you with the task of clearing their nests and making a critical decision as you progress.

Repairing the Sulfur Mine Camp Elevator

Repairing the elevator in Avowed

As you embark on the Fires in the Mine mission, your first goal is to reach the mine encampment. Along your route, you’ll encounter workers who express their frustration about the malfunctioning elevator that needs repair for accessing the camp. To address this issue, follow these steps:

Utilize an Electric Lilly Seed—these act as electric bombs—and target the wooden panel situated to the right of the elevator. Activating the bomb will power the elevator mechanism, allowing you to pull the lever below and summon it down.

Once you’ve arrived at the encampment, you’ll meet a character named Seyon, who underscores the importance of reopening the sulfur mines. Subsequently, you will encounter Darle, a soldier anxious to have the Envoy’s assistance.

Eliminating Spider Nests in the Mine

Destroying the first spider nest

Once you proceed into the mine, your primary objective is to eradicate two spider nests within the Fires in the Mine quest. The first nest is conveniently located near the mine’s entrance. Navigate upwards through the stairs until you reach an open cavern teeming with spiderlings of various sizes; eliminate them using fire spells, bombs, or Kai’s Firestarter ability.

To locate the second nest, continue along the designated path from the first location. Destroy a few webs and traverse over the broken railway track to descend into the nest’s vicinity. There, you will encounter more spiders that also need to be eliminated before you can successfully burn down this nest. Once both nests have been handled, make your way back to the mine encampment.

While traversing, keep an eye out for a sarcophagus adjacent to an elevator that offers loot—collect Magran’s Force, a unique pair of gloves. Afterward, activate the elevator to access the entrance to the mines.

To Destroy the Sulfur Mine or Confront Darle?

Decision on the sulfur mine's fate

Just before you exit the sulfur mines, you will be confronted by Darle, who is guarding the entrance. He proposes a controversial plan: to destroy the mine in order to avert war between the nations. Following his reasoning, players are faced with a pivotal decision: destroy the mines as he requests or refuse and engage Darle in combat.

Choosing to comply with Darle’s request means the sulfur mines will be destroyed, and consequently, you will never be able to return to this area. Note that Seyon will be displeased with your decision and will withhold any monetary rewards upon the quest’s completion.

Conversely, if you decide to fight Darle, know that this leads to an accessible boss encounter. Despite his role as the antagonist, Darle is relatively easy to defeat—equipped only with a sword and lacking special attacks. After swiftly handling him, head back to Seyon for your well-deserved rewards, including coins, and the opportunity to re-enter the mines for further exploration and loot in Avowed.
