As of now, Elden Ring Nightreign features a singular map known as Limveld, a compact yet perilous version of Limgrave from the base game. This dynamic map constantly evolves and is a stage for various random events that players may encounter. If you’re exploring these events and feeling unsure about how to proceed, you’ve landed in the right place.
This guide covers the different transformative Shifting Earth events and other random encounters you may experience in Nightreign, detailing strategies and potential rewards for each.
Overview of Map Events in Nightreign
In Nightreign, events are categorized mainly into two types: Shifting Earth events and random map events. Shifting Earth events dramatically alter sections of Limveld, such as the creation of The Crater. Conversely, random map events are simpler, providing unexpected encounters throughout your Expeditions.
Shifting Earth Events in Nightreign
Shifting Earth events activate after defeating Nightlords and typically endure for three to five Expeditions. Players should allocate Day 2 primarily to these events to maximize their rewards and objectives.
Once these events conclude, it’s uncertain how to reactivate them unless you join other players still experiencing them.
The Crater
Located in the northern area of Limveld, The Crater event creates a vast, volcanic pit. Players must navigate a complex parkour path to defeat several bosses, culminating in a battle against a Magma Wyrm at the bottom.
Defeating the Magma Wyrm grants access to an altar that transforms any weapon in your inventory into a legendary armament, eliminating the level requirement for usage. To exit efficiently, utilize the Spectral Hawk located near the altar.

The Mountaintops
This event appears in the northwest Limveld and offers a less favorable experience due to its highly situational rewards. It’s advantageous primarily if your team encounters specific Nightlords or employs Frostbite tactics.
Climbing to the red/orange quest marker requires traversing Spiritstreams and battling bosses that drop powerful anti-dragon and Frostbite buffs. Be sure to collect these before engaging Freezing Dragons to ensure a smoother experience.
At the peak, you’ll receive a significant Frostbite resistance and an attack boost when in proximity to frost effects, allowing you to tackle Freezing Dragons more effectively. For optimal results, our guide recommends targeting a particular Nightlord in conjunction with this event.

Rotted Woods
The Rotted Woods event serves as one of the easiest and most lucrative opportunities for acquiring Runes. Situated in the southeastern region, entering this area triggers Scarlet Rot, but there’s a straightforward solution.
Head to the castle marked on your map with a red/orange icon to collect a map piece. After doing so, track the new quest marker to find a massive flower sheltering a legendary item.
Obtaining this item grants complete immunity to Scarlet Rot and introduces a life-gain mechanic, allowing you to heal by attacking enemies. This makes the Rotted Woods one of the most beneficial areas for farming both Runes and Dormant Power, especially if you aim to reach Level 15 quickly.

Noklateo, the Shrouded City
Noklateo emerges as one of the most exhilarating Shifting Earth events, located in the northern Limveld. Mirroring the aesthetics of Nokron and Nokstella, this bustling city is rife with enemies and exploration opportunities.
To maximize rewards, players should dedicate all of Day 2 to navigate its depths, making use of Spiritstreams until reaching a grand hall where the Naturalborn of the Void awaits.
This boss encounter, while daunting, feels more manageable with a team. Defeating the Naturalborn grants players access to an altar that offers a free revival, applying to everyone in your party, making it a strategic advantage in upcoming battles.

Random Map Events in Nightreign
In addition to the major Shifting Earth events, the Limveld map also features less significant random occurrences, some of which are quite rare.
Fell Omen
Occasionally, a formidable enemy known as the Fell Omen will spawn randomly during daytime. Defeating this enemy rewards you with an attack power boost each time you discover a new Site of Grace. However, if defeated, you will lose a level and Runes, while taking increased damage for the remainder of your time in Limveld.
Cyclones
Cyclones can be identified by dark blue-black circles appearing around points of interest (POIs) on your map, including ruins and Great Churches. A visible grey Cyclone will hover above these spots, indicating the presence of NPC Invaders resembling the Nightfarers.
These encounters can be challenging, sometimes featuring one or multiple Invaders, yet they drop +2 weapons and Runes upon defeat, making them a worthwhile challenge.
Surprise Second Night Boss
During one of my early Nightreign Expeditions, my team faced an Ancient Dragon as our Night 2 boss, only to encounter a second Night Boss—a Nox Dragonkin Soldier—afterward. Thankfully, your Flasks and resources are restored between boss encounters, providing an unexpected chance for additional rewards before facing the Nightlord.

Walking Mausoleum
The Walking Mausoleum event is exceedingly rare but can occasionally be found on your map with a deep red circle indicating its location. Inside, players can duplicate one of their weapons, an invaluable option if you possess powerful gear leading up to your Nightlord fight.
Meteor
Occasionally, a notification will alert players to a meteor landing in Limveld. A red circle will mark the impact site on your map, revealing a chance to battle the Fallingstar Beast Jaw. This encounter promises additional challenges and rewards.
SPOILER WARNING:
Swarm of Locusts: Sentient Pest Raid
A Swarm of Locusts may manifest during your Expedition, unleashing clouds of insects that can steal levels from players. Tracking these locusts to an invisible boss—representing a less powerful variation of the Sentient Pest Nightlord—is necessary to reclaim your levels and unveil the boss for combat. Defeating it grants a reward that enhances your Rune acquisition.
Demon’s Curse: Equilibrious Beast Raid
This event informs players of a demon’s spawn, leading to a significant HP reduction. Tracking down this demon—a Scale-Bearing Merchant variant—enables players to lift the curse by paying a fee for a buff that increases attack power based on collected Runes. Alternatively, a challenging battle awaits those who opt to defeat the Merchant instead.
Bubbles: Augur Raid
Amid a successful Expedition, players may find themselves pursued by playful bubbles that trigger a fight with Nightlord Augur. This encounter is less daunting than its main counterpart, and defeating the easier version provides a Flask enhancement that restores both HP and FP simultaneously.
