Mini Medal Rewards in Dragon Quest I HD-2D
Mini Medals can be exchanged at the Citadel of the Monarch of Medals, which players can access later in the game. Unlike the medals in Dragon Quest III HD-2D, early access isn’t available here.
Within the Citadel, you’ll find a book detailing rewards based on the number of medals you’ve gathered. Here’s a brief summary of what you can earn:

Locations of All Mini Medals
Mini Medal #1: Galenholm
Galenholm is located in the northwest corner of the map and can be accessed at any time, even before reaching Erdrick’s Hollow. Once there, head west towards the pier to find the Mini Medal hidden in a pot.
Mini Medal #2: Secret Spot
Travel south of Galenholm to discover a Secret Spot. Enter this area and inspect the pot at its center for your second Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #3: Roadside Inn
The Roadside Inn, positioned southeast of the previous Secret Spot and southwest of Erdrick’s Hollow, is part of the story progression. Inside the first room, check the drawer for the Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #4: Erdrick’s Hollow – B2
On the second floor of Erdrick’s Hollow, look for a room with a slime. The Mini Medal can be found in a pot adjacent to it.
Mini Medal #5: Forgotten Ruins
After exploring Erdrick’s Hollow, continue east. Head past the Wayfarer’s Chapel until you come across a small bridge leading to the Forgotten Ruins. Inside, go south into a dilapidated house to find the Mini Medal in a pot.
Mini Medal #6 / #7: Carbon
Nestled in the northeastern part of the map, Kol is home to two Mini Medals. The second one is found in the northwest section near a mage’s tent surrounded by poisonous terrain. A Safe Passage spell can help you traverse this area safely.
Mini Medal #8: Shrine of Rain – 1F
After resting at the Shrine of Rain, ascend the central stairs and proceed through the west corridor to locate a pot containing a Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #9: Craggy Cave – B1
Post boss battle in Craggy Cave, explore north to find a chest holding this Mini Medal in the first room.
Mini Medal #10: Tantegel Castle – 2F – Secret Room
After completing Craggy Cave and obtaining the Thief’s Key, return to Tantegel Castle. Open the red doors on the east side until you discover stairs leading to a secret room. Look in the pot there for the Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #11: Wayfarer’s Chapel
Head back to Wayfarer’s Chapel and enter the room on the right. There’s a Mini Medal waiting in a closet!
Mini Medal #12: Grave of Galen
Once you can access the central house in Galenholm, proceed down to the Grave of Galen. For now, you can only explore the ground floor. Move north through the large door, take the east path, and find the Mini Medal in a small room’s pot.
Mini Medal #13: Quagmire Cave
Upon entering Quagmire Cave, take the first right and head to the end of the corridor to discover a barrel with a Mini Medal inside.
Mini Medal #14: Rimuldar
In the northernmost house in Rimuldar, search the drawer of the woman living there to reveal the Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #15: Cave of the Dwarves – B2
Navigating through the Cave of the Dwarves, reach B2 and ascend the west stairs to return to B1. Then, continue south through a narrow passage to find a chest with the Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #16: Faerie Village
In Faerie Village, go to the northeastern house and inspect one of the barrels in the corner to find the Mini Medal you’re looking for.
Mini Medal #17: Secret Spot
As you progress the story in Faerie Village, a Secret Spot will become available in the forest southwest of the desert, close to the Field of Flowers. The Mini Medal is concealed on the ground there, so explore thoroughly.
Mini Medal #18 / #19: Damdara
Damdara, a ruined town on the northeastern edge of the desert, is home to tougher enemies. The first Mini Medal is in a pot by the eastern house, while the second is located within the only accessible building, also in a pot.
Mini Medal #20: Tantegel Castle – B1
Once you acquire the Magic Key, revisit Tantegel Castle. Head to the backyard and descend the stairs to a locked room. Open it, speak with the Sage for the Sunstone, and then inspect his underwear drawers to find a Mini Medal!
Mini Medal #21: Quagmire Cave – B2
Your main quest will eventually lead you back to Quagmire Cave. On the bottom floor, check the northern corner for a chest containing a Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #22: Weirdwood
Full exploration of Weirdwood is possible only after you have obtained the Princess’s Necklace. Once the area is accessible, head east to locate a chest containing this Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #23: Wayfarer’s Inn
After exiting Weirdwood, instead of heading north, take the eastern bridge to reach Wayfarer’s Inn. Within the well, look for a Mini Medal hidden among the rocks.
Mini Medal #24: Cantlin
Check the third tombstone in Cantlin to unearth a hidden Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #25: Secret Spot
While en route to the Weeping Isle, you can find a Secret Spot at the mountain’s edge in the desert. The red chest inside contains a Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #26: Weeping Isle – L1
Upon reaching the Weeping Isle, take the singular path available on the first floor. In the northwestern corridor, you’ll discover a chest with a Mini Medal inside.
Mini Medal #27: Weeping Isle – L2
Continue your journey through the Weeping Isle until you emerge outside. After a cutscene, return indoors and pick up the chest in the southern corridor for a Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #28: Aunt Gel
After your adventures in Kol, you will obtain the Ultimate Key. It’s time to backtrack! Go to Tantegel and head to the church’s second floor. Open the jail door and check the pot for the 28th Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #29: Citadel of the Monarch of Medals
On the left platform of the Citadel, you will find the final chest containing a Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #30: Cantlin
Zoom over to Cantlin and investigate the second floor of the northeastern house for your 30th Mini Medal. A new reward is awaiting you!
Mini Medal #31: Cave of the Dwarves – B1
When teleporting to the Cave of the Dwarves, press triangle (or the equivalent button) to warp outside. Enter the cave and proceed to the western room to find a chest holding a Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #32: Grave of Galen – B3
As the story takes you back to the Grave of Galen, stop before the giant statue on your way to B4 and collect the Mini Medal located at its base.
Mini Medal #33: Shrine of Rain – 3F
While climbing the Shrine of Rain, check behind the stairs on the third floor for a barrel concealing a Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #34: Shrine of Rain – 5F
After defeating the boss and watching the cutscenes, exit the room and immediately go west to uncover a chest containing another Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #35: Secret Spot
New Secret Spots may pop up in previously explored locations. By zooming to Faerie Village and walking northwest, you can discover another one. A Mini Medal awaits you inside a barrel there.
Mini Medal #36: Secret Spot
This Secret Spot is located between Damdara and the Citadel of the Monarch of Medals. Cross the repaired bridge and head northwest to find it.
Mini Medal #37: Shrine of the Spirit
Upon entering the Shrine of the Spirit, head west and search the floor for a Mini Medal hidden there.
Mini Medal #38: Western Isle
To access the Western Isle, you must complete Zalen’s side quest, which involves speaking to a bard at various locations:
- Forgotten Ruins (east of Wayfarer’s Chapel)
- Nameless Ruins (west of Craggy Cave)
- Damdara (southwest of Faerie Village)
- Cantlin
- Galenholm
- Field of Flowers.
After talking to a fairy at the Field of Flowers, visit the Shrine of Rain and converse with the Dream-Whisperer, who will teleport you to the Western Isle. Post cutscene, stroll to the end of the northern pier to acquire the Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #39: Sanctum
Upon entering the Sanctum, ascend the stairs and search near the stained glass window for this Mini Medal.
Mini Medal #40: Dragonlord’s Castle – B5
Delving deeper into Dragonlord’s Castle, when you reach B4, you’ll come across two staircases. The west staircase takes you to Erdrick’s Sword, while the east leads to the final Mini Medal. Follow the east stairs, navigate through the narrow pathway to find the chest, and claim your ultimate medal.
After collecting all 40 Mini Medals, return to the Monarch to achieve the Medal Maniac trophy/achievement.
