Complete Guide to DOOM: The Dark Ages Khalim Village Walkthrough

Chapter 1 of DOOM: The Dark Ages, titled The Village of Khalim, serves primarily as an introductory segment where players familiarize themselves with the game mechanics. During this chapter, you’ll encounter new weapons, mechanisms, and various secret locations and collectibles while battling enemies.

This walkthrough is designed to guide you through each hidden element and collectible within Chapter 1, including toys and weapon skins that enhance your gameplay experience.

While navigating through The Village of Khalim, be on the lookout for:

6 Hidden Secrets
2 Collectible Codex Entries
2 Collectible Toys
1 Weapon Skin

Keep in mind that secrets and collectibles may not always be located together. For instance, you may find a Codex outside a secret area or discover a hidden spot that yields a Gold Crate instead of traditional collectibles. To track your progress on secrets and collectibles, refer to the map at the right side of your screen anytime during your journey!

With that covered, let’s dive into the action, Slayer!

Secret Location #1

Your journey begins with the discovery of the first secret location shortly after receiving the Power Gauntlet. Move past the tutorial section and through the archway into the next area.

To your left, you will find a barred door adorned with a purple sigil. Use your Shield Bash to reveal this secret location, where you will find a valuable Life Sigil.

Secret Location #2 and First Collectible

Proceed to your next enemy encounter, and once you vanquish them, your objective will shift to obtaining the Blue Keycard. Follow the quest direction to retrieve it, but be prepared for a showdown with a Pinky Rider.

After securing the Blue Keycard from the church, resist the urge to use it immediately.

Instead, in the area where you learn to parry attacks—located near the large gate that requires the Blue Keycard—head south toward the toy figurine icon on your map.

Now, use the Blue Keycard on the gate to claim your Toy Imp!

Secrets #3, #4 and Second Collectible

Utilize the Blue Keycard to progress further, closing the first Demonic Portal along the way. During this sequence, you will also encounter a Secret Gate requiring a Secret Key to enter.

To obtain the Secret Key, refer back to your map. There will be three additional Demonic Portals indicated; aim for the one on your left and furthest east, where you’ll uncover an Arsenal drop featuring a new weapon. Be prepared to face another enemy group during your journey there.

After eradicating the Demonic Portal, check your map again, and you should see the Secret Key marked, located just up a hill to the left.

Once you acquire the Secret Key, backtrack slightly to the Arsenal drop area. Check your map for the icon indicating a Toy Soldier Collectible located just below you.

Take a leap down, follow the path to retrieve this second collectible. At this point, you’ll have unlocked your third secret and secured a second collectible!

For your fourth secret, head back to the central zone—where the first Demonic Portal was located—and unlock the Secret Gate to acquire another Life Sigil.

Fifth Secret and Third Collectible

Return again to the Arsenal drop near the second Demonic Portal you conquered. While facing the Arsenal pod, perform a U-turn and look across the water to spot a cave entrance.

Make your sprint-jump to enter the cave, where a short enemy confrontation awaits. Here, you will also find your third collectible—a Weapon Skin.

Next, proceed to annihilate the nearest Demonic Portal, which is the one you previously bypassed. After that, make your way to the last Demonic Portal.

Fourth Collectible

After eradicating the fourth Demonic Portal, refer again to your map to spot a nearby Codex. Move to the right of the portal and scale the wall to access it, allowing you to continue with your quest objective.

Final Secret and Collectible

After closing all Demonic Portals, you will find yourself facing a significant Titan enemy. Upon defeating it, proceed toward the next quest objective, but don’t forget to keep an eye out for one final Codex marked on your map before you finish (as depicted above).This Codex can be accessed by climbing a wall situated between the objectives, ensuring you’ve not missed anything!
