In Rebellion’s flagship immersive simulation Atomfall, players are given a vast array of choices, allowing for a unique experience in the quarantine zone. While you can select your allies, the game ensures that you’ll encounter the same adversaries as others during your journey.
Given the scarcity of ammunition, medicine, and sanity within the village of Wyndham, understanding your enemies and devising strategies to defeat them is essential before charging headfirst into combat.
Consider this guide as your scavenged notes from a damp cellar, complete with a few rats, a tripwire setup, and just enough rounds for an iconic English pistol.
It’s important to note that Atomfall does not compel players into direct confrontation with hostile factions. Every conflict you can initiate in Cumberland is winnable, yet it’s wise to remember that not all invitations to fight should be accepted.
This compilation of Atomfall’s enemies serves as part of our comprehensive game guide, which also covers leads, weapons, and survival tips that can extend your life expectancy by several minutes.
Outlaws
While the Outlaws in Atomfall wouldn’t resonate with the humor of today, their rebellious spirit and antics remain a persistent threat within the game. These figures, akin to a grizzled version of juggalo culture, are perfectly positioned to inflict headaches upon unsuspecting players.
Brawler
Brawlers are the most typical outlaws encountered, often seen tormenting players in groups, relying on brute force to overpower those who underestimate them.
They favor “dual-purpose”sports gear—think cricket bats and clubs fitted with vicious sharp attachments—and occasionally toss flammable items your way.
To defeat them, maintain your distance. Focus on isolating an outlaw before attacking, then repeat the tactic. This strategy is complicated by the presence of armed allies.
Shooter
Where Brawlers rely on melee combat, Shooters hold the advantage with firearms, making them a significant threat during encounters.
Despite their lack of accuracy—often using shotguns at impractical ranges—the combination of melee fighters and shooters presents a unique challenge.
Prioritize eliminating the Shooter when encountered to avoid overwhelming fire from their comrades.
Druids
In Atomfall, Druids might remind players of that eccentric friend who immerses himself too deeply in mystical narratives. Thankfully, though, they won’t turn on you with lethal intent without a reason.
Convert
The typical Druid starts as an ordinary villager turned into a mystical zealot, often wielding light weapons such as knives or sickles. They advance slowly before lunging at you.
Given their minimal armor and limited range, they rank as the easiest human enemies in the game. Using ranged attacks grants you a significant advantage, however, you can also choose to engage them in close quarters, albeit at some risk.
Occasionally, a Convert may attempt to deploy a poison bomb.Your best defense? Target them with a ranged weapon to ensure they inadvertently harm themselves.
Executioner
Executioners stand out from their Druid counterparts due to their distinct hoods and imposing weaponry.
These combatants wield axes or maces and will rush towards you at the first sign of hostility.
Executioners pose a serious threat when encountered in tight spaces or in groups, as they hit hard and fast. The best approach includes using a shotgun (other than the Leamington) or a revolver for quick, devastating shots at close range.
Archer
Often recognized as some of the visually striking adversaries in Atomfall, Archers will become your most dreaded foes, especially in areas like Casterfell Woods.
These opponents prefer to keep their distance, accurately firing arrows that can quickly deplete your health.
If you manage to close the gap to melee range, they become easy prey, yet prompting such an encounter is no small feat due to their stunning arrows.
To effectively engage them, consider using ranged attacks like arrows in retaliation. If that’s not feasible, an alternative option is to ambush them, but only if you’re facing a lone archer.
Protocol
Among the oddities that populate the quarantine zone, the Protocol forces appear most resembling traditional enemies. Composed mainly of ill-prepared conscripts from across the UK, they tend to operate cohesively and come armed.
Recruit
The average Protocol recruit is rather unimpressive, often seen with truncheons or basic handguns like the Hi-Power.
When isolated, these recruits are easy targets. They lack both armor and aggression, making it feasible to tackle them head-on.
Utilizing stealth for a silent takedown is ideal, but if you find yourself cornered, don’t worry—just about any strategy will work against them.
Submachine Gunner
The backbone of the Protocol’s firepower, submachine gunners sport the infamous Sten—one of the rare automatic weapons in the game that excels in tight spaces.
While they present a constant threat, their danger significantly diminishes at longer ranges.
To dispatch them effectively, either take them out from a distance using a rifle or bow or close the gap quickly and engage them in close combat before they can unleash a barrage of bullets.
Marksman
Hat’s off to Captain Sims, whose ruthless reputation has allowed well-equipped elite soldiers to emerge among the Protocol ranks.
The Protocol marksmen wield potent weapons, including the Falkirk battle rifle and the Lee-Enfield bolt-action rifle, capable of delivering considerable damage from various distances.
Marksmanship training provides these enemies with impressive reach and rapid fire, further compounded by improvised armor that enhances their resilience against light-caliber attacks.
Direct confrontations are ill-advised. Instead, maintain your distance while utilizing rifles or bows and take advantage of cover. In surprise situations, consider deploying a Molotov cocktail or nail bomb for a quick advantage.
B. A.R. D.
Once the home to Britain’s leading scientists, Wyndham’s legacy is now tarnished by the presence of B. A.R. D.robots. These mechanized enemies are a common sight in both the village and underground facilities, and they come in two equally challenging varieties.
Patrol Robot
The basic B. A.R. D.robot features a formidable twin-barreled machine gun on its right arm, complemented by a claw on the left.
While obliterating these machines is no small task, you don’t always need to.
Shift your perspective: Rather than viewing them as formidable foes depleting your ammo, consider them as investments.
Your best tactic is to target the glass dome atop the robot’s head, impairing its visual sensors for reduced accuracy.
Once it enters emergency protection mode from sustained damage, seize the opportunity to retrieve the nuclear battery—the game’s most coveted prize.
Flamethrower Robot
Flamethrower robots share similar attributes with their patrol counterparts but unleash fiery streams of napalm that threaten your health significantly.
These units feature weak points where the napalm tanks are positioned, but your primary focus should remain on the sensor dome until you can reach the battery.
Atomic Wildlife
Living amidst nature can often shield you from urban nuisances; however, in Atomfall, that calm is disrupted by encounters with genetically altered horrors that lurk everywhere.
Rats
To begin, let’s consider a familiar foe: rat swarms.
These creatures emerge from small nests and swiftly converge on you, embodying a relentless force.
The most effective method for culling rats is to stomp on them, a technique accessible by looking down and hitting the kick button. While this eliminates a handful of rats, it won’t solve the underlying issue.
If you can locate their tunnel entrances, stomping can collapse these paths, although it requires vigilance to ensure they don’t simply return.
Alternatively, simply walking away may suffice, as rats lack speed and cannot chase you too far.
Feral
Every now and then, you may find yourself wishing for unusual encounters, like being spat on by a goblin version of a Blue Man Group member. Enter the Feral—a creature that embodies that surreal experience.
These faceless entities are found lurking in shadowy corners, often remaining dormant until you inadvertently disturb them.
While their melee attacks are not overly concerning, their infectious spit poses a substantial threat. Their remarkable reach and aiming ability can catch even the most alert players off guard.
If you can move quietly and maintain your distance, navigating past Ferals becomes manageable. Otherwise, consider a Molotov cocktail to dispatch their pods before they rise.
Thrall
A special mention goes to the Thralls—the disquieting remnants of humanity roaming the quarantine zone.
These husks are consumed by the corrosive growth, presenting violent and aggressive behavior.
Though they lack speed and agility, their brutal melee attacks can severely deplete your vitality while risking infection. They resemble bullet sponges akin to the B. A.R. D.robots, albeit without the rewarding atomic batteries.
Sneaking past Thralls can be effective, but engaging them often drags additional Thralls into the fray.
Maintain a safe distance from these foes. Opt for firearms, grenades, or a strategic kick to fend them off if they approach too closely, allowing you to return to shooting.
