Complete Guide to All Mutations in Grounded 2: The Toxic Tangle Update

The recent update for Grounded 2: The Toxic Tangle has introduced an exciting rework of the game’s mutation system, featuring a variety of new mutations for players to explore. The updated system categorizes mutations into passive mutations, which activate based on the weapons equipped, and active mutations, which players can manually trigger from the Mutation Menu.

This comprehensive guide outlines all the mutations introduced in the Toxic Tangle Update, providing insights into how to unlock them and optimal strategies for using them as you navigate the intriguing landscapes of Brookhollow Park and its newly accessible areas.

Complete List of Mutations in Grounded 2: The Toxic Tangle

The mutation system overhaul means that players can now maintain one passive mutation alongside up to four active mutations simultaneously. The new mutations introduced in the Toxic Tangle Update are detailed below, including their unlocking methods and unique effects:

Passive mutations are automatically activated based on the current weapon set in use. Players will notice that switching weapons triggers the corresponding passive mutation without delay.

Bardic Inspiration Mutation

Returning from the original game, the Bardic Inspiration mutation shines in this update, but it requires significant effort to unlock. To activate this mutation, players must track down and defeat 10 Crickets. Although this may be a challenging task, the benefits it provides are well worth the effort.

The Bardic Inspiration mutation affords players a chance to enhance the abilities of allies with every arrow fired from bows and greatbows through the following effects:

  • Each bow attack has a 20% chance to increase damage for the player and nearby allies by 15% for a duration of 10 seconds.
  • Perfect shots will boost critical hit chances for the player and surrounding allies by 5% for the same period.
  • Dodges present a 20% opportunity to increase stamina regeneration by 25% for allies for 10 seconds.

Once the mutation reaches level 3, dodges will trigger a similar enhancement effect. The synergy between Bardic Inspiration and the new Cricket Lute Bow, along with the Cricket Armor Set, allows players to act as team healers or bards. Alternatively, players can utilize the modified Discord bow to apply debuffs to enemies instead of buffs to teammates.

Sour Sensation Mutation

The Sour Sensation mutation offers players the ability to combat a new environmental threat, known as Sour Tang, found in Brookhollow Park. This corrosive effect damages armor and reduces player defenses, and enemies can also fall victim to it, particularly when using new Tang-based weapons, such as the Acid Ruin Mage Staff.

Unlocking Sour Sensation is achieved through consuming Sour Lumps. Players need to consume 10 lumps to reach the mutation’s highest level, providing the following advantages:

  • Decreases Tang Build-Up rate by 25%, 40%, or 50% as levels increase.
  • At level 3, grants immunity against durability loss from Tang Build-Up.

This mutation is essential for safely navigating the Tang-infested sections within areas like the Greenhouse, Crocket Court, Veggie Garden, and Pumpkin Patch.

Additionally, two other mutations—Hauling Hero and Whittle Wizard—have seen updates in this iteration.

Hauling Hero Mutation

The Hauling Hero mutation has been revamped and now requires players to enhance their cozy bases to unlock and upgrade it at levels 2, 3, and 4. This mutation allows players to carry additional building materials in a single trip.

  • Increases the capacity to haul an additional 5, 10, or 15 Grass Planks or Weed Stems at a time.

Whittle Wizard Mutation

The Whittle Wizard mutation, which previously modified the Candy Staff’s effects, has transitioned to a permanent passive mutation activated whenever players wield a staff. To unlock and level it up, players must defeat a total of 40, 100, or 200 creatures using staffs. The effects are as follows:

  • Rank 1: Slight increase in Sizzle, Shatter, and Puckle damage.
  • Rank 2: Moderate increase in those same damage types.
  • Rank 3: Significant boost to Sizzle, Shatter, and Puckle damage.
