As with previous installments in the franchise, Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers players the option to choose from various factions during character creation. This selection will significantly influence interactions in the world and unlock unique dialogue options with companions in DA: The Veilguard.
This article will explore all the known factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard that players will encounter while journeying through Thedas.
All Known Factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
BioWare has introduced the following seven factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- Lords of Fortune
- The Mourn Watch
- Antivian Crows
- Grey Wardens
- Veil Jumpers
- Shadow Dragons
- The Inquisition
Some of these factions are newly introduced, while others, such as the Inquisition and Grey Wardens, return from previous games. When creating your character, Rook, you’ll likely have the opportunity to select one of the aforementioned factions as part of your backstory. Let’s delve into what each faction represents within the broader lore of Dragon Age.
Grey Wardens
The Grey Wardens have been a significant faction since the inception of the series. This order has existed for many years in Thedas and has dedicated itself to combating Darkspawn, with their headquarters located in Weisshaupt Fortress in the Anderfels.
The Grey Wardens accept individuals without regard to race or social standing, allowing them to include a diverse range of members, from common criminals to nobility.
Lords of Fortune
The Lords of Fortune comprise a guild of treasure hunters and explorers based in Rivain. They can also be categorized as mercenaries, frequently undertaking bounty and monster hunts for the right payment.
They are home to some of the continent’s premier treasure hunters and often flaunt the relics they collect from dungeons as symbols of their prowess.
The Mourn Watch
Among the factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the Mourn Watch is particularly interested in the magic permeating Thedas. Operating from the Grand Necropolis in Nevarra, they hold considerable political influence over the continent.
Some refer to them as Death Mages due to their practices.
The Inquisition
The Inquisition is an ancient faction that was established following the First Blight by a collective that sought to protect the continent from magic and heretics. The group was later reformed in response to the catastrophic Breach that threatened Thedas.
While it’s uncertain if you can choose to play as an Inquisition member, familiar faces such as Lace Harding and the Inquisitor—your player character from the third game—will appear in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
The Antivan Crows
The Antivan Crows are a notorious group of assassins, renowned throughout Thedas for their lethal skills. They are organized into several houses, each led by a grand master referred to as “Talon.”
This group maintains a strict code, ensuring they confirm every kill, regardless of the costs involved.
Shadow Dragons
The Shadow Dragons are a rebellious faction based in Tevinter, dedicating their efforts to assisting the needy while challenging the oppressive, corrupt government.
They are expected to play a critical role in the game, with the prologue set to occur in Minrathous, the capital of Tevinter, as showcased in the gameplay trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
The Veil Jumpers
Among the factions featured in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the Veil Jumpers, who focus on exploring ancient elven ruins scattered throughout Thedas. They primarily operate around the Arlathan Forest, located on the continent’s eastern side.
This group of researchers is open to anyone wishing to join their ranks.
