If you’ve ventured deep into Hollow Knight: Silksong and fought your way into Act 3, you may be eager to explore Verdania. While maps are readily available online, reaching this enigmatic area initially poses a challenge.
Access to Verdania requires you to first delve into the Abyss and acquire the Silk Song to access the dreams of a powerful individual. With that in mind, let’s prepare for the journey ahead.
It’s advisable to enter Verdania with a healthy supply of masks, as the enemies in this region can be quite formidable. Additionally, ensure you possess at least three nail upgrades, though upgrades to four will provide an even greater advantage.
Interestingly, you can choose to explore Verdania instead of collecting one of the three hearts required for the main quest. Many players find Verdania to be a more straightforward and engaging alternative, especially compared to the challenging fight against Karmelita. If you wish to bypass that battle, Verdania is an ideal choice.
Locating Verdania
Your adventure into Verdania begins in Greymoor. Head to the far right section, just below the location where you obtained the Thread Storm. You’ll notice a previously indented wall has collapsed. Enter through this opening.
After navigating several gaps, you will encounter the Green Prince, standing amidst the remnants of his beloved. Here, with the Needolin in hand, you can enter his dream and unfold the story.
Before diving too deep, head to the right and break apart the rocks on the upper platform. Watch out for the spiders as you advance, avoid a boulder while scaling the wall, and perhaps enjoy a moment of humor by knocking a spider into a pit of spikes.
At the hallway’s end, you’ll discover a bench alongside the remnants of some fallen bugs, as well as a map of Verdania. Although there are no other benches in this area, the map can be a helpful navigation tool for subsequent attempts after inevitable defeats.
Gaining Entry to Verdania
Return to the Green Prince and begin to play your Needolin while holding down to step into his dream. You will find yourself in the lush realm of Lost Verdania, where you can engage with the Green Prince’s thoughts before proceeding to the right.
Beware of bulbous green plants along the way; striking them will spawn several bouncing bulbs reminiscent of orbs from the Sands of Karak. Utilize these to propel yourself further right, where a mossy stone statue of a mantis awaits.
Break the statue open and follow the luminous orb path it reveals. You’ll need to jump onto a Lily Pad and employ the Faydown Cloak to navigate upward. The time limit here is generous, so take your time to complete this section with ease.
Fountain Essence

After leaving the first statue, strike the bulb to leap up to the fruits. Exercise caution with the spikes. Continue right and prepare for a confrontation with an airborne bug that will sporadically toss projectiles. Either rush in or utilize your tools to dispatch it efficiently.
As you proceed, be alert for the second Lilypad, which can be quite dangerous. Once you ascend the ledge, hit the glowing bulb to climb higher, encounter a harmless leaf bug, and make a dash jump upward to reach the next ledge.
This vertical pathway connects the various areas of Lost Verdania. In the lower right room, the Green Prince can once again be found resting beside a lake. Have another conversation with him before progressing.
Climb the platforms and execute a dash jump from the higher ledge, using your grapple to glide past the spikes. An ancient tablet awaits you here, instructing you to activate three fountains to collect your essence.
Discovering the Fountains
The initial fountain lies across the lake in a somewhat hidden entrance on your right. Ascend the wall, hit the large bulb, and utilize your Clawline to navigate the glowing fruits. This may prove challenging, so use the Faydown Cloak effectively.
Reach another large bulb on the left side, which will require you to platform across more fruits to the right, wherein you’ll locate a switch to activate the second fountain. This may consume time, likely causing the bulbs to disappear, requiring you to restart.
Clawline back to the left to reenact the large bulb, then ascend to the one above the fountain room. Bounce across materials and maneuver through a spike tunnel, continuing to grapple your way into the final fountain room, where you should discover a sign indicating changes below.
Step onto the large pressure plate to unveil an archaic wedding altar that has risen, beckoning you to play your music. Upon doing so, you will receive five essences all at once, allowing you to exit once you’ve collected them.
Reaching the Upper Statue

Upon exiting into the tall room on the right, begin ascending the walls. For now, disregard the exit to your left, hit a bulb to kickstart yet another platforming sequence. Though this section is tight, the timer is lenient, so tread carefully and utilize your wings.
After climbing the bulbs, strike the statue at the top and follow the descending trail of orbs. Although the timer becomes more strict here, it’s manageable if you maintain focus and don’t miss any orbs.
Mid-Section Dark Room

To navigate to the upper-left entrance of the tall room, you’ll encounter several dangerous lilypads and some minor enemies, but nothing too overwhelming. Engaging the large bulb in the center of the room will grant you access to converse with the Green Prince again, although there’s limited action you can take at this point.
Drop down to a ledge leading into a dimly lit home filled with bothersome flying enemies. Quickly dispatch them as you navigate through the space.
Head to the left in the room and hit the glowing leaf-covered object among similar shells, and gather the orbs produced. You can do this without removing the enemies, making things a tad easier if you do and thus avoiding added difficulty.
The collected orbs shouldn’t be too challenging, primarily requiring you to use your wings expertly as you retrieve them rapidly. After collecting the final one, make your way back outside and into the water.
Acquiring the Left-Most Essence
Upon entering the adjacent room, be prepared to face a hostile group of mantises. Their attack patterns necessitate patient positioning, and for this reason, I suggest entering with a reliable parry strategy coordinated for maximum damage.
Open the gate and drop through the tall room, then travel to the right to unveil a vine-covered shortcut, making subsequent runs much easier if you die. Return to the first room on the left where more mantises await your arrival—time to deploy your parrying skills.
There are several stone ledges above water inhabited by more foes. Elevate yourself and jump onto the left ledge, where you’ll find a statue to break open and gather additional orbs, preferably without much interference from the mantises.
Essences in the Big Room’s Left Side
After ascending back up through the tall room and climbing the wall to your right, notice another entrance on the left leading into an expansive room where two essences await discovery. Defeat a jumping deer-like enemy while scaling the platforms and proceed left.
Cross the lake, ascend a ledge, and collide with the wall, revealing a secret opening containing another large bulb. Jump up the smaller bulbs and strike the statue as usual, which spawns a line of orbs alongside another essence.
After leaving that hiding place, dash jump onto a small triangular platform, ascend via additional platforms, and break through the upper right wall—a location hiding a lake with essence just out of reach. To collect it, shift the lilypad right by swimming into it, followed by a double jump or super jump upwards. The orbs it generates should be fairly accessible, bringing vibrant light once collected.
Following the Palestag Trail
As you leap up the platforms to your left, spot a glowing feather atop a high ledge. Use Clawline towards it, then double jump to reach the left side for inspection before entering the room above.
Inside, converse again with the Green Prince, recalling tales of his previous hunts for a Palestag. Strike the flower pile to the left and follow the shimmering trail of orbs it leaves behind, which are notably easy to collect, requiring only a wall jump over some spikes.
Continue to the right following additional glowing feathers, where you will catch sight of the beautiful Palestag. Pursue it into the tunnel, grapple over the spikes, and stock up on silk before dropping into the next room.
The Palestag Battle
Your next challenge involves confronting the Palestag itself. This encounter isn’t particularly difficult, as it primarily escapes while launching sluggish projectiles at you, but the annoyance factor is high. Be sure to utilize any projectiles you brought, and clawline toward it when opportunities arise.
To dodge projectiles, wait for their movement, then navigate away from the first ones to move—adjusting to subsequent projectiles accordingly. Successfully landing blows can become tricky, which is why Clawline is invaluable in hastening this process.
If you enter equipped with a parry and face defeat against the Palestag, rest at the nearest bench and switch to the Pale Nails, which excel in delivering powerful strikes. Once you overcome this challenge, proceed into the hallway on your left.
The Quest for the Empty Throne
Return to the upper-middle region of Verdania and hit the bulb situated in the lake. In place of the Green Prince, you will discover a house that marks your goal within this region.
Watch out for an irritating mantis soldier preventing your path; exercising patience will allow you to take him down without sustaining damage. Ascend to the top and enter the house to meet the Green Prince, who is now ready to engage in battle.
Before initiating the skirmish, navigate to the right of the entrance until you locate a clover-covered area with a hole in the ceiling. Execute a Super Jump to nab a valuable refill of silk, ensuring you are well-equipped for the upcoming fight.
Facing the Clover Dancers
For this conflict, I suggest utilizing Flea Brew and Flintslate, as enhancing your nail boosts your ability to effectively manage their attacks compared to relying solely on throwing tools. These adversaries very much resemble the Cogwork Dancers but present a heightened challenge.
Focus strictly on hitting the Green Prince while remaining vigilant about white lines intersecting your position and quickly moving away as necessary. Upon their convergence in the middle of the battlefield, the fight shifts quite dramatically.
Their combined effort unleashes a formidable tornado attack that sweeps across the arena. Evade this by dashing forward, leaping up the wall, and clawlining over to buy yourself time.
Employ healing techniques during the full-screen slash attack, ensuring to heal mid-air in a safe zone amid the second wave of slashes. Once you develop familiarity with the rhythm akin to the Cogwork Dancers, victory should feel much more attainable, ultimately securing you the fourth powerful heart of Pharloom.
