The Marrow marks the second environment that players will delve into in Hollow Knight: Silksong, and it is noteworthy for presenting significant challenges for those who are new to the game. This area is rich in discoveries, featuring crucial items, intriguing side quests, and formidable bosses that are pivotal for progression.
This guide is designed to support you as you navigate through the Marrow, offering detailed insights and strategies for overcoming its obstacles. Here is your comprehensive guide to the Marrow area in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Accessing The Marrow

To enter the Marrow, players must progress through Bone Keep to the east, ultimately leading to the appearance of “The Marrow” title card. Upon arrival, expect to navigate through a landscape dominated by lava and platforms constructed from bones.
It is crucial to exercise caution in this new territory. Enemies here are more aggressive compared to those in Moss Grotto, and the presence of collapsing platforms calls for agility and quick reflexes as you maneuver through the level.
Locating Shakra & Purchasing a Map
Your first task upon entering the Marrow is to locate Shakra, an essential NPC who sells maps for the various areas you will explore. His precise location is indicated in the images provided above.
Begin by moving east, then ascend when you reach a rocky platform populated by one crawling enemy and two hovering platforms above. After that, head west, dodging flying foes, until you discover a room with perilous spiked floors. Ascend to the higher level, and look for an opening in the ceiling to jump into.
Once inside this new space with collapsing platforms, ascend to the top and navigate through the room on the left. Continue left until you find Shakra, identifiable by his melodic singing. Be sure to purchase maps for both the Marrow and Moss Grotto to assist your exploration.

Additionally, I recommend acquiring a compass if you have the means, as it will significantly streamline navigation within this area.
Beginning The Lost Fleas Side Quest
The Marrow is home to one of the earliest side quests in Hollow Knight: Silksong, known as the Lost Fleas. To initiate this quest, speak with the NPC at the Flea Caravan located on the eastern side of the map.
To reach the Flea Caravan, retrace your steps from Shakra and head east until you encounter the collapsing platforms. Rather than descending all the way down, take the first right onto the bone platform.

Proceed east through the room where rocks are falling from the ceiling, until you arrive at a pit that leads downwards. Drop into the pit and take the first left, where you will see a sign marked with a firefly and the Flea Caravan tucked away nearby.
Interact with Fleamaster Mooshka twice to commence the Lost Fleas side quest, which involves guiding a group of fleeing fleas back to the caravan. Keep this quest in mind as you progress, as it will take some time to complete.
Finding The Shard Pendant Tool
The Shard Pendant is one of the initial tools that can be discovered in Hollow Knight: Silksong, conveniently located within the Marrow. Starting from the Flea Caravan, backtrack to the sign and move upward, taking a left at the top.

In the following room, you will encounter the collapsing platforms once more. Descend and veer left to land on a platform occupied by a giant skull enemy. Defeat or evade this formidable foe and proceed through the opening to the left to access the chamber housing the Shard Pendant.
This tool is beneficial as it facilitates the collection of additional shell shards from defeated creatures, enhancing your gameplay experience.
Bell Beast Boss Location

The Bell Beast is the primary boss you will encounter in the Marrow of Hollow Knight: Silksong. This challenging opponent can be found in the room directly above where Shakra resides.
Refer to the accompanying map image for the Bell Beast’s exact whereabouts, and watch for a prominent sign with three arrows pointing left, which signifies that you’re approaching the boss’s lair.
However, you cannot engage the Bell Beast right away. To trigger the boss fight, you must retrieve a specific item to free it from captivity.
Initiating The Bell Beast Boss Fight

To initiate combat with the Bell Beast, you need to destroy the webs ensnaring it. To accomplish this, players should first acquire the Silk Spear skill, located in the northern section of Bone Bottom.
To navigate to the northern area of Bone Bottom, head west from the Bell Beast’s position, then proceed northward. Continue upward until you discover a sizeable black platform featuring an altar for interaction. Engaging with the altar will grant you the coveted Silk Spear skill.
Once armed with the Silk Spear, make your way back to the Bell Beast’s location and utilize your new skill on the webs to liberate the boss. Prepare yourself—this will trigger an immediate boss encounter.

Bell Beast Rewards

Upon vanquishing the Bell Beast, you will unlock the fast-travel functionality in Hollow Knight: Silksong, enabling swift transitions between areas. However, you will still need to discover additional fast-travel points to utilize this feature fully.
Following this victory, your next objective will be to reach the Deep Docks. To embark on this journey, continue heading east from the Bell Beast’s location.
Exiting The Marrow & Entering Deep Docks

After confronting the Bell Beast and advancing to the subsequent area to its right, progress eastward then drop down a level. Next, ascend to the upper level and move into the next room—follow the three images below to guide your path.
In the upcoming area, proceed downward and then eastward to reach the next space, where you’ll find an opening in the floor. Descend through this opening.
Eventually, you’ll come across a sign directing you to a room with a save chair—enter this room if you need healing and wish to save your progress. Then, exit through the same door you entered and head downward.
On the lower platform, you will encounter a large skull and a mini skull enemy. Proceed onto the mini skull platform and continue east.
Doing this will lead you into an area filled with lava. Navigate southeast to the metal platforms and continue moving eastward until you find the passage leading to the Deep Docks.
