Greymoor serves as a captivating introduction to Hollow Knight: Silksong, resonating with the essence of its predecessor. The area’s somber and deteriorating atmosphere is more than just an aesthetic choice; it forms the core of the environment’s design and challenges.
Players will reach Greymoor after acquiring the Drifter’s Cloak, allowing them to elevate from the Far Fields. This area is renowned for its density and complexity, offering a substantial challenge that is characteristic of Team Cherry’s innovative design.
Mastery of Hornet’s combat skills and newly acquired abilities is crucial for surviving Greymoor. Enemies here present a significant leap in difficulty compared to prior zones, so if you find yourself overwhelmed by the oppressive decay of this fallen city, our guide will equip you with the strategies needed to conquer it.
The Ascent Into Greymoor
Upon using the Drifter’s Cloak to propel yourself from the Far Fields, you’ll find yourself in Greymoor. Be sure to veer to the right to meet Shakra, the mapmaker, where purchasing the Greymoor map is highly advisable if you haven’t done so already.
Advancing further right, employ the Drifter’s Cloak to reach elevated platforms. You’ll encounter several challenging avian foes whose erratic flight patterns can be frustrating. The most effective tactic for dealing with them is to wait until they fly overhead, then leap and execute a flurry of slashes.
After crossing a gap, you’ll face a locked gate with its lever hidden on the opposite side. Ascend to the top floor where a formidable bird wielding a sword awaits. This enemy displays aggressive behavior, but his attack patterns are relatively straightforward, making him easier to evade. Drop down to activate the switch that will unlock the gate.
Below, a door leads you into a vast area teeming with enemies. Here, you can also gather a significant number of rosaries. Progressing right will take you to a mini-boss encounter.
Mini-Boss And Thread Storm
This challenging section demands quick reflexes, featuring all the airborne adversaries you’ve encountered thus far. Be particularly wary of the larger birds throwing daggers, as their ranged attacks can rapidly deplete your health.
Stay mobile, keep an eye on your health, and utilize the Drifter’s Cloak along with Swift Step for evasive maneuvers. Upon defeating them, you will unlock access to bouncy platforms that can be ascended using your needle. Activate the switch at the top and return outside.
Utilize the newly appeared balloons to climb higher, searching for the leftmost platform. Bounce once more to reach an altar that bestows you with the Thread Storm ability.
Now, revisit the entrance of Greymoor and take the path to the left.
The Left Path Of Greymoor
As you venture left, be prepared to encounter enemies exhibiting erratic combat patterns. Tactically strike at them, dodging in the opposite direction and waiting for them to close in.
On the elevated platform, a small enemy hurls bottles. Timing your attacks is key to avoiding their projectiles. Continuing to the left, you will swim through shallow water to a new platform.
Here, you’ll face familiar enemies as well as a formidable bruiser wielding a club. His jump attack has a wide range, making it perilous; use your dash ability to sidestep it effectively and avoid damage.
Proceed leftwards where a building inaccessible from this side is encased in platforms. Ascend to hop over and gain entry from the opposite side.
A resting spot awaits before you gear up for an intense battle. As you progress left, prepare for a combat arena.
The initial wave pits you against a duo of small foes wielding deadly staffs. Anticipate their two swings before moving in for the finish. Once they’re dealt with, a caterpillar armed with a trident will enter the fray.
This enemy boasts a broader array of attacks, including a trident throw and burrowing followed by a charge. While these moves can seem daunting, staying close and employing consistent slashes will help you secure victory.
Finding An Ally For The Boss
The subsequent area is expansive, demanding your vigilance as numerous enemies lurk about. At the far bottom right corner, you’ll discover a travel station; unlocking this will be beneficial for future journeys.
Continue traversing to the far end of the zone through the available doorway. Here, you will encounter wayward enemies armed with scissors, who pose a real threat from above.
The best approach is to leap over them, striking as you make your descent. Ascend further to find an open door on the right housing Garmond and Zaza.
Engaging with them will enable you to recruit them for the upcoming boss battle—a wise decision given the challenging nature of your next opponent.
Once Garmond joins your ranks, retrace your steps and head down an open path leading to a rope-wrapped platform. Slice through the rope and drop down.
To your immediate left stands Moorwing, the boss of this area. Known for being one of the game’s most challenging adversaries, his diverse and dangerous attacks can be intimidating, but with Garmond and Zaza by your side, you’ll have a much better chance at overcoming him.
Defeating Moorwing will allow you to exit Greymoor and proceed to the next great adventure in the Haunted Bellhart.
