Deltarune has now released a total of four chapters, each filled with challenging battles, collectible items, and compelling quests for completionists. If you’ve played Chapter 1, which debuted nearly seven years ago, you might have overlooked some valuable treasures like exceptional healing items and armor critical for later stages.
This guide aims to catalogue every distinctive item found within Chapter 1, providing solutions to various puzzles and offering strategies to tackle boss encounters. It operates under the assumption that you are interested in pacifying and recruiting every enemy.Opting for the Weird Route can complicate your progress in Chapter 2, so I recommend that approach only on subsequent playthroughs.
Glowshards and Initial Discoveries
Glowshard #1

In the early stages of Deltarune, players experience a straightforward narrative path. However, once you enter the Dark World, exploration reveals hidden gems. After walking for a bit, take the lower path at the fork to find a hole in the wall housing the invaluable GlowShard. This item appreciates in worth with each new chapter, so keep it safe!
As you proceed in the game, you’ll arrive at the Field of Hopes and Dreams, where the real action begins.
Field of Hopes and Dreams
Understanding Encounters

Once you find yourself in the Field of Hopes and Dreams, it’s essential to grasp the combat mechanics. Similar to Undertale, each standard enemy can be defeated without violence, allowing you to reap significant benefits. While aggressive tactics expedite battles, they can lead to fewer opportunities for recruitment and a less vibrant Castle Town.
Boss encounters can typically be approached with force, but be aware that certain fights necessitate pacification, even if you’re focused on defeating everything. Do note that, in Chapter 1, using violence does not provide any rewards; thus, sparing enemies is your best bet for long-term gains, particularly as your party now includes additional members. For example, make use of Ralsei’s abilities to pacify and spare enemies promptly, preventing their attacks altogether.
Collecting Dark Candy

Following your first encounter and Lancer’s introduction, venture downwards to collect a few Dark Candies. Although these are basic healing items, they evolve into Darker Candies in Chapter 4, significantly enhancing your health recovery.
The Broken Cake

After further exploration, you will encounter a distressed triangular figure lamenting over his cake. Engage with the cake to receive a Broken Cake, which becomes invaluable in later scenarios.
Acquiring the White Ribbon

Solve a straightforward puzzle to discover a large room with multiple paths. Proceed down, left, and up to unearth a treasure chest containing the White Ribbon. This piece of armor offers modest defense and can later be fused for more substantial benefits. It’s also quite amusing when equipped on Ralsei!
Shopping with Seam
Seam’s shop may seem non-essential, but it’s a great spot to stock up on Dark Candies before their upgrade in Chapter 4. While the Darkburger and Amber Card possess impressive fusion upgrades, they will be available in subsequent chapters, allowing you to focus on essentials for now. If you prefer to collect unique items, consider purchasing the Spookysword, especially useful for the final boss in Chapter 1.
Broken Key C

Before stepping onto the Chess Board, head upwards for a puzzle that seems unsolvable since it references Card Castle’s layout. However, if you know the combination—Diamond, Heart, Club, Spade—you can secure this piece early, saving yourself future backtracking frustration. Inputting the correct sequence may take some practice but is well worth it!
Facing K. Round

As you navigate the chessboard and select your team name, be prepared for K. Round’s encounter. Note that direct attacks are ineffective since attacking will lead to him downing Almond Milk until you relent. Use the Deep Bow action each turn while focusing on defense and healing when necessary. Hiding in the corners during his jumps will help you evade most of his attacks. Eventually, he will tire out, allowing you to proceed without Susie as a party member.
Scarlet Forest
Finding the Ragger

A few rooms into the forest, you will encounter spinners that rotate diamond patterns. In the first area with these spinners, navigate up and left to locate the Ragger item. This provides Ralsei with an extra +2 Attack, a definite upgrade over other options at this stage.
The Dice Brace

Following a sequence where Susie and Lancer navigate a symbol puzzle, you will tackle another puzzle that requires inputting Spade, Diamond, and Club. Completing this challenge rewards you with the Dice Brace, which offers a solid +2 Defense—great for your team.
Encountering Clover

In the next room, meet Clover, who presents a challenging puzzle. Whether you love figuring it out or wish to skip ahead, the input sequence is Diamond, swap, add Spade, then add Diamond to access Clover. Disarming Clover can be done by utilizing Ralsei’s abilities to discuss Sports, Boys, and Birthdays before employing pacification to conclude the confrontation effectively.
Acquiring the Spin Cake

Upon reaching the Bake Sale, spoken to by Mallius, you’ll be able to transform the Broken Cake into the Top Cake. However, instead of using it immediately, backtrack to secure the Spin Cake, which, while less powerful than the Top Cake, serves as an excellent full-party healing item. This can be acquired in limitless quantities, if the bug in Chapter 4 concerning the baker is resolved correctly.
Revive Mint and Broken Key B

Discover the first ReviveMint chest in the room with the dancers located at the bottom left corner. These become renewable in Chapter 4, but stockpiling now proves advantageous. Afterward, discover another secret path within the dancer circle leading to the second Broken Key part, thus reducing future backtracking significantly.
The Original Starwalker

Following the creation of a machine that helps you, you will enter a room where a bird launches stars at you. Hit the bell, then retrace your steps to find the Original Starwalker, who makes appearances throughout each chapter. Optionally, you could interact with the bird for a surprise monetary gain.
Finding Egg #1

Utilizing the right exit from the Starwalker room, you will find yourself entering a notorious area known as an egg room. To discover the egg, keep cycling in and out of the loading zones until you reveal a new locale. Interact with the tree leaves, engage with the man, accept his offering, and you’ll obtain an egg added to your Key Items, before being sent back to the Bake Sale.
Vs. Susie and Lancer

While the forest maze presents little challenge—just avoid Lancer and Susie during navigation—the subsequent fight can be tough due to Susie’s high damage output. Two strategies exist: either deal damage to Lancer largely forcing Susie to intervene, or sing a lullaby to put Susie to sleep for the entire fight. By keeping low on the screen, you can avoid most of their attacks while circling to dodge incoming moves, ultimately resulting in a manageable miniboss encounter.
Card Castle
Iron Shackle and Moss

Once imprisoned, click on the moss in the top right corner to partake; it’s a quirky action that’s featured in every chapter but serves no real purpose beyond curiosity. More importantly, you’ll find an Iron Shackle on the wall that grants a favorable +1 Attack and +2 Defense, ideal for bolstering Susie’s combat prowess.
Broken Key A and Prison Key
After resolving your conflict with Susie, interact with the elevator, selecting the “??????”option to go down to a basement where a peculiar character resides. Accept his game, and then test your puzzle-solving skills to repair the broken keys. With two pieces already in hand, utilize the fast travel door to Seam’s Shop to obtain the final piece. Once all three are collected, return to the Bake Sale and allow Mallius to create the fully functional key for unlocking the basement door, leading to your encounter with Jevil—a formidable superboss that tests even the most seasoned players.
Dainty Scarf and Brave Ax

Reach the Card Castle’s fifth floor where a save point awaits, alongside an easy elevator and a re-challenge against K. Round. Visit Rouxls at his shop, equipping the Dainty Scarf and Brave Ax before continuing your journey. Be sure to backtrack for the Spin Cake if you’ve utilized it before this point, as it will serve you well ahead.
Confronting Jevil

With your gear set, proceed to the? ???? floor and interact with the door again to initiate the fight with Jevil, described as one of the most challenging bosses in Deltarune. Choose to engage with violence or mercy; opting for violence grants you the Devil’s Knife—a powerful weapon for Susie, offering +5 Attack and making Rude Buster’s TP cost lower, beneficial for Chapter 3. Alternatively, pacifying Jevil nets you his Tail, granting +2 Attack, Defense, and Magic, an asset during various encounters in the game.
During the fight, focus on keeping Kris alive. Use healing spells and strategies efficiently; Ralsei’s healing spells can revive fallen allies without consuming ReviveMints. Utilize strategies like Pirouette or Hypnosis when your TP allows, as Pirouette has unpredictable outcomes but can deplete Jevil’s stamina. This encounter relies on learning his attack patterns, often requiring multiple attempts to secure victory.
Facing the King

In contrast to Jevil, the battle against King is relatively straightforward. Utilize dual talking acts with Kris to access abilities like RedBuster and DualHeal. RedBuster notably strengthens Rude Buster attacks. Since you are compelled to attack, equipping Ralsei with the Ragger and Susie with Jevil’s Tail or the Devil’s Knife (if acquired) is advisable.
After sufficient damage, you will trigger a cutscene influenced by your choices of violence or mercy throughout the chapter. Backtrack for dialogue and humor, enriching the experience as you conclude.
Returning to the Light World
Chatting with Rudy

While much of the dialogue in Hometown carries less impact, a few conversations lead seamlessly into future narratives. Visit the hospital to discuss intriguing insights with Rudy about you and Noelle, setting the stage for Chapter 2.
A Visit with Sans

By Sans’ shop, engage in casual conversation. Regardless of your responses, he will inevitably segue into his brother’s company, a recurring theme that resonates throughout the chapters.
Meeting Alphys

In the alley by Sans, you’ll discover Alphys setting out milk for a presumably hungry cat, a thread that continues its way through every encounter in light world visits.
Knocking on Mettaton’s Door

Neighboring Bratty’s residence, interact with Mettaton’s uniquely shaped house. Knock twice for a glimpse into their world, paving the way for further developments in Chapter 4.
A Heartfelt Meeting with Asgore
Conveniently located near the previous home, engage with Asgore for a touching moment where he speaks of flowers meant for Toriel. To ensure you’ve completed this interaction, explore the back of the house to find a fridge. Open it to store the egg obtained earlier, a crucial task as this area becomes inaccessible later on.
Encountering Onionsan

Position yourself on the beach next to Asgore’s shop to meet Onionsan, whose dialogue foreshadows lore that unfolds in the next chapter, but only if you interact with them now.
The Sweet Encounter with Noelle

At the gate below Dreemurr’s residence, Noelle awaits her entry. Engage her in conversation regarding Susie, and jokingly explain Susie’s chalk-eating tendencies for an endearing lead-in to Chapter 2.
Following your adventures, the remainder of the dialogue is optional. Once you return home, take the opportunity to go to sleep, triggering the concluding cutscene. Be sure to view the credits to save your completion data for a seamless transition into Chapter 2.
