Sweetpea is a dark comedy television series conceived by Kirstie Swain, inspired by the 2017 novel of the same name authored by CJ Skuse.
This six-part series premiered on October 10, 2024, airing on Sky Atlantic in the UK and the Starz network across the United States and Canada.
The narrative follows Rhiannon Lewis (played by Ella Purnell), a demure administrative assistant who spirals into a deadly rage, seeking revenge against those who have tormented her. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis states:
“Rhiannon Lewis is rarely remembered — people often overlook her. That changes when she reaches her breaking point. As Rhiannon’s life takes a dark turn, can she safeguard her lethal secret?”
Stellar Cast of Sweetpea Featuring Ella Purnell and Nicôle Lecky
1) Ella Purnell as Rhiannon Lewis
In Sweetpea, Ella Purnell portrays Rhiannon Lewis, a receptionist at The Carnsham Gazette. Having endured years of neglect and bullying, she ultimately embarks on a violent path to eliminate those who have wronged her.
Purnell has garnered recognition for her roles in popular series such as Yellowjackets, Ordeal by Innocence, Belgravia, and Fallout, alongside notable film appearances in Maleficent, Never Let Me Go, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Army of the Dead, and Churchill.
2) Nicôle Lecky as Julia Blenkingsopp
Nicôle Lecky takes on the role of Julia Blenkingsopp, a real estate agent who tormented Rhiannon in high school and continues to belittle her after their paths cross in their hometown.
Lecky gained acclaim with her play Superhoe in 2018, which was later adapted into the BBC Three series Mood in 2022, where she starred, wrote, and served as an executive producer. Additional TV credits include Fresh Meat, Casualty, Death in Paradise, and Sense8. Her writing contributions also include the online soap EastEnders: E20.
3) Jon Pointing as Craig
Jon Pointing portrays Craig, Rhiannon’s potential romantic interest. He had previously worked at her father Tommy’s construction business and aims to purchase it from Rhiannon following Tommy’s death.
Pointing’s television roles span series such as Plebs, Smothered, Pls Like, Big Boys, and Queenie, and he earned a BAFTA TV Award nomination in 2023 for his performance as Danny in Big Boys in the ‘Best Male Comedy Performance’ category.
4) Calam Lynch as AJ
Calam Lynch brings to life AJ, a warm-hearted junior reporter who respects and befriends Rhiannon.
His filmography includes roles in Black Beauty, Dunkirk, and Benediction, and he has appeared in BBC One’s Mrs. Wilson, Camnir in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and Theo Sharpe in Bridgerton’s second season.
5) Leah Harvey as Marina Farrar
Leah Harvey plays Marina, a junior detective at the local police department. She suspects Rhiannon is involved in the ongoing murders, yet like Rhiannon, often goes unnoticed by her peers.
Identifying as non-binary, Leah uses they/them pronouns. Their notable roles include Salvor Hardin in Apple TV+’s Foundation, Matelote in Les Misérables, and Marina Samarova in A Gentleman in Moscow. They also featured as Nurse Billie in the film Tuesday (2023).
