For those who enjoyed the mechanics introduced in Season 2, you’re in for a treat: Season 7’s Witch Powers share striking similarities with the previous Vampiric Powers, albeit with fresh twists.

The Foundations of Diablo 4’s Seasonal Powers: Vampiric Legacy
The Vampiric Powers, unveiled in Season 2, allowed players to enhance their characters with unique abilities belonging to specialized trees, separate from the primary skill options. These powers were categorized into minor and major types, offering a breadth of skills from stat enhancements to inflicting detrimental effects like Vampiric Curses and Infections on foes. Players had the opportunity to equip five Vampiric Powers simultaneously, each demanding a unique combination of three Pact types—Ferocity, Divinity, and Eternity—found throughout their gear. This system encouraged creative build customization.
Acquisition of these powers typically required players to spend Potent Blood, which they could obtain by defeating monsters. Some powers were also earned through seasonal quests. By spending Potent Blood, players would randomly choose from three different Vampiric Powers to unlock or upgrade. Though straightforward, this randomness sometimes made it challenging to obtain the desired powers consistently.
Presently, six of the Vampiric Powers can be found as Aspects, which can be imprinted onto weapons and armor. These include the likes of Aspect of Accursed Touch, Boiling Blood, Undying, Metamorphosis, Moonrise, and Hectic Aspect.
Season 7’s Witch Powers: Enhanced Choice and Accessibility
While Diablo 4’s Witch Powers draw inspiration from the previous Vampiric Powers, they significantly improve upon the acquisition process, making build customization more user-friendly. This season introduces 25 Witch Powers, which are categorized into four distinct schools: Eldritch, Psyche, Growth & Decay, and Lost Powers. Each school encompasses seven powers, save for Lost, which consists of four powers. Enhancing player strategy, a player can equip six Witch Powers at once: five standard powers and one chosen from the unique selection.
A standout feature of Season 7’s powers is the method of acquisition. Players earn new powers through seasonal quests and by advancing their reputation with the Coven faction. Each school offers Alter interactions at the Tree of Whispers to obtain new powers, with the Lost school’s Alters cleverly hidden within dungeons across Sanctuary. As players delve into the season, these familiar powers may very well surpass the Vampiric mechanics in legacy and impact.
Furthermore, participants in Headhunts can collect socketable Occult Gems, further enhancing the Witch Powers equipped and providing players with additional tactical choices during gameplay.
