Colorful Rimbook S1: An Affordable $439 Laptop for Everyday Users
Colorful, a well-known hardware manufacturer, disclosed the launch of its Rimbook series at the end of July this year, targeting entry-level consumers. The latest addition, the Rimbook S1, comes equipped with a more advanced processor from Intel’s 13th generation lineup.

“Building on the spirit of progress and mobility, the Rimbook S1 is designed to deliver reliable performance in a compact 14-inch form factor at an affordable price. With its balance of efficiency, portability, and value, it is an ideal choice for students, home users, and professionals seeking a practical everyday laptop.”

Compared to its predecessor, the Rimbook L1, which featured an Intel Core i5 12450H, the Rimbook S1 upgrades to the Core i5 13420H. While both processors share similar specifications, the newer model operates at a higher base clock, increasing performance for everyday tasks. The Core i5 13420H maintains the same 8-core/12-thread architecture, featuring a blend of 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, but enhances its performance threshold to 4.6 GHz, surpassing the 12450H’s 4.4 GHz boost clock.
The Rimbook S1 is specifically designed for daily activities, combining affordability with a sleek profile and commendable specifications for light workloads. The laptop features a 14-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, supporting a modern computing experience. Its dimensions are striking, measuring less than 2cm thick (1.79 cm) and weighing only 1.48 kg, representing a significant weight reduction of over 200 grams from the previous model.

This reduction in weight is primarily due to the smaller form factor; the L1 had a larger 15.6-inch screen, but the S1 compensates with a higher resolution. Although the L1 offered a superior brightness of 50 nits, the S1 presents a more attractive visual experience overall. Additionally, the Rimbook S1 incorporates a slightly larger battery of 60 Wh compared to the L1’s 50 Wh, while retaining the same 16 GB DDR4 RAM and 512 GB SSD storage options. The connectivity options remain largely comparable, featuring similar ports and networking capabilities as its predecessor.
With a competitive price tag of $439 (excluding VAT), the Colorful Rimbook S1 is set to appeal to a wide audience, though product availability may differ by region.
