Colorful Launches “X3D Gaming Mode” to Enhance Gaming Performance of AMD Ryzen X3D Processors

Colorful has introduced a new feature named X3D Gaming Mode, designed to optimize the performance of AMD’s Ryzen processors by disabling hyperthreading on certain models.

Introducing X3D Gaming Mode: A New Era for Performance Enhancement

With the upcoming launch of the Ryzen 9 9000X3D CPUs, Colorful, one of AMD’s key board partners, has revealed its innovative X3D Gaming Mode technology. While specifically tailored for X3D processors, Colorful has indicated that this mode can also provide benefits for non-X3D Ryzen models.

This mode supports all Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 processors utilized within Colorful’s AM5 motherboard lineup. To demonstrate the function of X3D Gaming Mode, Colorful shared a brief video on Weibo, showcasing its implementation on B650 chipsets. Accessible via the BIOS, activating this mode disables Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) and, depending on the CPU architecture—single CCD or dual CCD—the secondary CCD is turned off to concentrate the gaming load on a single CCD.

This adjustment significantly benefits the X3D CPUs, particularly by enhancing the performance of the CCD equipped with additional L3 cache. By deactivating the second CCD, latency is minimized, thereby improving overall processing efficiency. Notably, this feature can also boost the performance of non-X3D processors; there are instances where disabling hyperthreading results in performance gains, though outcomes can vary based on specific use cases.

For advanced processors like the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D, the X3D Gaming Mode is particularly advantageous compared to single CCD non-X3D models. It is important to note that the performance of the Ryzen 9 9900X3D may noticeably decline when one of its CCDs is shut down, as the processor features six cores per CCD, which may not be optimal for all users.

Conversely, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D can be expected to function similarly to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, currently regarded as the world’s most powerful gaming CPU. Colorful’s X3D Gaming Mode bears resemblance to Gigabyte’s X3D Turbo Mode; however, Gigabyte’s implementation deviates by not disabling SMT or CCDs but instead makes adjustments to other CPU parameters.

Both technologies require users to navigate their respective BIOS settings to determine the best performance configurations. According to Colorful’s testing, they observed an impressive 17% performance increase in PUBG when the X3D Gaming Mode was activated, underscoring its potential value for gamers.
