Cody Rhodes shares integral advice he received from 25-time champion following major WWE loss
At WrestleMania XL, Cody Rhodes will have another opportunity to claim the top spot in WWE, having previously fallen short to Roman Reigns at SoFi Stadium last year. However, he remained determined and persevered, brushing off the defeat and getting back up.
Throughout the remainder of the year, he continued to achieve victories over numerous top competitors in the roster, with his most notable wins being two triumphs over Brock Lesnar. Rhodes recently acknowledged John Cena for providing him with valuable guidance following WrestleMania 39.
During his appearance on The MMA Hour, Cody shared that the defeat was incredibly difficult for him to accept. Instead of speaking with his family members right away, he sought counsel from wrestling icons Diamond Dallas Page and John Cena. As a 16-time WWE World Champion, Cena took on a paternal role for Rhodes, encouraging The American Nightmare to persevere and keep an important goal in mind.
“I spoke to John Cena about this thing, this exact thing,”Rhodes asserted that he wants to win the main event of WrestleMania and not just be in it. “That was probably the best advice not because of the advice itself, because it was someone who had the experience. Someone who has been to the top. It would have been a great call to make to my dad, didn’t have that choice. So I had John kind of present me with a challenge. The challenge that was presented to me was, ‘Just be the champion without the belt.’”
John Cena publicly supported Cody Rhodes on WWE programming in early 2023, marking the arrival of a new popular wrestler ready to take on the role of the industry’s top star. Rhodes’ endorsement on Monday Night RAW solidified his status as a rising babyface in the industry.
Could Cody Rhodes Become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania XL?
The American Nightmare in 2024 will have two nights and two matches ahead of him. His first priority will be to guarantee a fair WrestleMania XL Night Two by preventing interference from the Anoa’i family. To make this official, he and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins must defeat The Rock and Roman Reigns.
Following The Rock’s declaration of Roman Reigns as his “Tribal Chief”on the March 1 episode of WWE SmackDown, The Bloodline was revitalized. The segment quickly became the most-watched YouTube video, prompting Dwayne Johnson to proudly share about it on social media and encouraging fans to show their support.
Despite all that occurred on the Road To WrestleMania XL, it cannot be guaranteed that Cody Rhodes will emerge victorious this weekend. However, it is still a possibility.
