Cody Rhodes gives health update following WWE RAW attack; shares wounds
Despite facing a brutal attack from The Bloodline, Cody Rhodes showed his resilience on Monday night’s episode of WWE RAW. This was the last episode of the red brand before the highly anticipated WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia this weekend.
In January of this year, The American Nightmare emerged victorious in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match and has now chosen Roman Reigns as his next opponent. At last year’s WrestleMania, The Tribal Chief managed to defeat Cody Rhodes in the main event with the help of Solo Sikoa’s interference. On an episode of RAW, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to deliver a vicious assault on Rhodes, with The Brahma Bull even using a belt to whip him multiple times.
On The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Cody Rhodes was inquired about his well-being following the assault.
“I got wrap-around from the weight belt, so there is a nasty welt right here [his ribs], other than that, I feel by Saturday and Sunday, I’ll look myself a little bit. But yeah, leaving the ring on Monday was pretty… Those weight belts bring it. They bring it, not that I’d rather get hit a dress belt, but those weight belts are heavy. And it was my own, so insult to injury. But, just a flesh wound, that is all,”said Cody Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes weighs in on potential match between The Rock and Roman Reigns
It appeared that WWE had initially planned for Roman Reigns to face off against The Rock at WrestleMania XL, but ultimately altered their plans due to a negative response from fans on social media. The “#WeWantCody”movement gained momentum during this time.
During his interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Cody Rhodes disclosed that there were fans who would have rather witnessed a match between The Rock and Roman Reigns at The Show of Shows. Rhodes also mentioned that he thinks the “#WeWantCody”campaign among fans annoyed The Great One.
“I’m not going to explain this to The Rock by any means, I don’t need to fill the air with positives about The Rock. But I can say this, I think it has really gotten under his skin. The whole #WeWantCody thing, the dislikes on the video, all of that. And I do not think he realizes that some of the people chanting diarrhea, Rocky su*ks, or die Rocky die, whatever it is. Some of them are wearing The Rock’s merchandise. They still believe in The People’s Champion being under The Final Boss, they just didn’t want it at the expense of the investment, what we had been doing,”said Rhodes.
The excitement for WrestleMania XL is at an all-time high. It will be intriguing to witness whether Cody Rhodes will finally conclude his narrative and overthrow Roman Reigns during this weekend’s event.
