Coco Gauff shows her love for Marvel’s X-Men ’97; tunes in to watch the series after Miami Open exit

In a recent post on her social media, Coco Gauff expressed her admiration for Marvel’s X-Men ’97 animated series.

After a disappointing exit at the 2024 Miami Open, the 20-year-old American has returned home. Despite starting the event strong with straight-set victories over Nadia Podoroska and Oceane Dodin, only losing a total of 7 games, she was ultimately defeated by 23rd seed Caroline Garcia in a highly anticipated last-16 match. Despite putting up a fight, she eventually lost in a challenging three-setter with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

Before the clay court season began, Gauff took some time to relax and share updates with her fans on Instagram. It was clear that she had joined the Marvel hype, as she gave viewers a glimpse into her activities.

She was watching X-Men ’97, Marvel’s animated television series that debuted its first few episodes on March 20 of this year.

Despite putting up a strong fight, Coco Gauff was unable to advance to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open as she fell to the 23rd seeded player from France, Caroline Garcia. It was a disappointing loss for Gauff in the fourth round of the tournament.

After her defeat, Gauff addressed the press and characterized the match as “a rollercoaster,”while also acknowledging Garcia’s formidable counterpunching abilities.

Despite being asked if the loss at her home tournament was more painful, Gauff jokingly replied that even though she didn’t win, it was still a great feeling to be back home.

“Yes and no. I am the kind of person every loss weighs on me heavy. Especially one like today where I could have done better. Honestly if anything, it helped being home. Just be in my own bed.”

Despite expressing disappointment over missed opportunities and not sticking to her game plan, Gauff denied any rumors of succumbing to the pressure of playing at home.

“The level could have been better, so I don’t think it had anything to do with home, Gauff was quoted as saying.

When questioned about her upcoming matches on clay courts, she eagerly shared her excitement and revealed her next tournament destination.

“Yea I am excited for clay, I wish I did better this hard court season. But I am excited for clay. I am playing Sttugart as of now, and then obviously Madrid, Rome, and French Open,”Gauff continued.

It can be argued that the red clay is one of Gauff’s most formidable surfaces. She achieved her first championship on the clay at the Emilia-Romagna Open in Italy in May 2021. In the subsequent season, she made it to the French Open finals, ultimately falling to Iga Swiatek in straight sets.

Despite not having won a trophy since claiming the ASB Classic title at the beginning of the year, Gauff will strive to turn her luck around on the red clay courts.
