Warning: this article contains spoilers for season 3 of Yellowjackets.
Surviving in the wilderness is a formidable challenge for anyone, but within the eerie world of Yellowjackets, Coach Ben Scott faces a particularly grim fate.
Since his traumatic introduction in episode 2, where Misty (Samantha Hanratty) dramatically amputated his leg using her first aid skills, Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) has found himself at odds with the increasingly savage dynamics of the survivor group. While the other characters descended into the depths of cannibalism, Ben resolutely maintained his moral compass, resulting in a slow deterioration of his physical and mental state. As we progressed through season 2, his isolation from the other survivors deepened, culminating in a dark moment when Misty intervened to prevent him from taking his own life—a familiar theme of trauma throughout the series.
Therefore, it came as little surprise when Ben chose to abandon the survivors’ camp at the end of season 2. He was caught between a rock and a hard place, as the oppressive wilderness loomed large. Compounding his plight, the remaining survivors mistakenly blamed him for the destruction of their cabin, leaving him with no option of return. This unsettling turn sparked intense speculation among fans regarding his fate as trailers for season 3 emerged. Thankfully, the new season has begun to illuminate his journey with definitive answers.
What Happened to Coach in Yellowjackets?

Season 3 unveils a significant development: Ben not only survived until spring but also stumbled upon survival boxes marked “KUH.”These supplies, including flashlights, bear spray, batteries, and food essentials like peanut butter protein bars and hot chocolate powder, provided him with crucial resources, alleviating the burden of hunting and gathering in a perilous environment.
What Do These Boxes Mean for the Yellowjackets Universe?

The implications of these survival boxes are manifold. One intriguing hypothesis posits the existence of prior inhabitants in this desolate region, presumably prepared for a stay with supplies at hand. Fans have even suggested that Ben and the other survivors might not be the singular group navigating the Canadian wilderness. However, it’s plausible that Ken’s supplies are remnants from an earlier time, as the survivors have not exactly been stealthy in their endeavors, making them easy targets for other potential explorers.
Furthermore, Ben’s discovery prompts additional inquiries, such as the meaning of the “KUH”tag. Could it stand for a survival gear brand, or perhaps be someone’s initials? Was this area scouted for particular reasons? Given the series’ meticulous attention to detail, it seems improbable that “KUH”is merely an arbitrary designation.
What Will Happen to Coach in Yellowjackets?

Although the mystery surrounding the KUH boxes has captivated fan discussions, their primary significance lies in Ben’s survival. These resources have enabled him to regain some strength, allowing him to set traps for wildlife. This new development led to the capture of Mari, through whom he learns of the rest of the Yellowjackets’ belief that he was responsible for the cabin fire. In a gripping twist, he takes Mari back to his secluded cave where she witnesses him seemingly communicating with an unseen entity.
Ben’s journey has indeed been tumultuous, leaving audiences eager to see how his storyline unfolds in the third season. For now, all we can do is hope he escapes becoming the latest victim of the increasingly vicious Yellowjackets.
