YouTube Innovates with In-App Video Sharing and Messaging Features
Many users have noticed that YouTube creators frequently request viewers to share their videos to expand their reach. Traditionally, sharing has been done through external messaging applications, but recent developments indicate a shift in this practice.
YouTube is currently in the testing phase of an innovative feature that enables users to share their favorite videos directly within the app. In a strategic move, the platform is also considering reinstating its messaging functionality, following a trend where similar platforms like Spotify have successfully integrated direct messaging features into their applications.
“We’re experimenting with a new feature that makes it easy for you to share videos you love (long-form, Shorts, and live streams) and have conversations about them directly on the YouTube mobile app, ”YouTube stated.
Participants in YouTube’s experiment will enjoy the ability to message one another, a feature that has been highly requested. Currently, this rollout is available to users aged 18 and over residing in Ireland and Poland, although users can continue to share videos via their preferred messaging apps.
To take part in this trial, individuals must be logged into their YouTube accounts. Once signed in, they can activate the feature by tapping the notification bell icon and selecting the option to invite others to share videos.
Upon receiving the invite link, users can choose to accept or decline the messaging option. Once accepted, sharing a video becomes seamless within the YouTube app.
Using the Messaging Feature
To share a video while viewing content, simply utilize the existing share button within the app. Users can track their conversations by navigating to the Messages section after tapping the notification bell. Additionally, it’s possible to manage conversations by long-pressing to delete or blocking a user to prevent future messages.
This isn’t YouTube’s first foray into messaging; the platform introduced an instant messaging feature in 2017 but discontinued it shortly thereafter. As of now, there is no specific timeline available regarding when this new sharing and messaging feature will extend to users in other regions or if it would be rolled out universally.
