In a recent update by Tom Warren from The Verge, exciting details have emerged regarding the Xbox game release schedule for 2026. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Xbox brand, and Microsoft is gearing up to launch entries in four of its most significant franchises: Forza Horizon, Halo, Gears of War, and Fable.
Fans of Forza Horizon can mark their calendars for May 19, 2026, when Playground’s Forza Horizon 6 is set to hit the shelves, a date confirmed during the recent 2026 Xbox Developer Direct. Furthermore, insiders indicate that Halo Studios (previously known as 343 Industries) is aiming for a Summer launch for Halo Campaign Evolved. This title is a remake of the iconic 2001 game that ignited the popularity of the first-person shooter genre and the Xbox brand itself.
As for Fable, it is slated for a Fall release, as officially stated by Playground Games.Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel featuring beloved characters like Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, is also expected to debut in the latter half of the year. Warren points out that Microsoft is strategically planning to release these titles before the highly anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19. Despite speculation about potential delays for GTA VI, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently confirmed that marketing efforts will soon commence, implying that both companies are focused on their release timelines.
Looking ahead, Warren’s sources suggest that Microsoft is gearing up for the launch of Kiln, a new multiplayer game from Double Fine, expected in April. Additionally, there are murmurs about upcoming content for Starfield, along with a potential release on PlayStation 5 rumored to occur on April 7.
Concerning Bethesda’s Fallout 3 remaster, it is reportedly still undergoing active development to ensure quality, although Warren does not anticipate its release this year. However, he does hint that Xbox fans can expect a new controller to be unveiled in 2026. These next-generation controllers are expected to feature advancements such as built-in Wi-Fi connectivity aimed at enhancing the experience for Xbox Cloud Gaming. Additionally, Warren notes that Microsoft is making strides towards testing free ad-supported Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming with select Xbox Insiders, with a broader launch anticipated later in 2026.
