Windows 11 Now Supports Spotify Session Transfers from Android, Similar to Apple Handoff for iOS

The Windows 11 Resume feature has recently been enhanced to include integration with Spotify, allowing users to seamlessly transfer their music playback experience between their Android devices and their Windows 11 PCs. By simply clicking the icon located on the taskbar, you can begin playback on your computer where you left off on your mobile device.

Although the Resume feature is not brand new, having previously supported OneDrive documents for easy editing across devices, the addition of Spotify marks a significant upgrade. This functionality is a part of the Windows 11 February 2026 Update (Build 26200.7840 or newer) and is currently being rolled out to users.

Steps to Enable Spotify Resume on Windows 11

To enjoy the cross-device capabilities of Spotify on Windows, you’ll first need to establish a connection between your devices via the managed devices interface. If you have previously utilized features such as using your smartphone’s camera as a webcam, you might already be connected. Here’s a simple guide on how to set it up if you haven’t done so:

Follow these instructions:

  1. Download and install the Link to Windows app on your smartphone, and sign in using the same Microsoft account associated with your PC.
  2. On your Windows PC, press the Win key, type mobile devices, and press Enter.
  3. Click the Add device button, which will open a new window.
  4. Select your Microsoft account and scan the QR code displayed on your phone to establish the pairing.
  5. In the features list, enable the Resume option.
  6. After completing these steps, simply ensure that Spotify is installed on both your phone and PC, and log into the same account across both devices.
  7. You can verify that the Spotify Resume feature is activated by navigating to Apps > Resume in the Windows Settings app.

Once set up, play a track on your mobile device, and after booting your PC, you will notice a Spotify widget appear on the lock screen. After logging in, the Spotify icon will appear in the taskbar, indicating it’s ready to switch playback from your phone to your PC.

Personal Experience with Spotify Resume

The effectiveness of the Resume feature largely hinges on its speed; it should operate smoothly without delays. During my trials, every time I played a track on my phone and then turned on my PC, the feature worked reliably. Within seconds of logging in, I was greeted by the Spotify icon, and tapping on the ‘Resume from your phone’ option allowed me to continue listening to my music without interruption.

If you happen to close the app, it will not prompt you to resume your session unless you sign out at least once. This makes it more convenient than rebooting the entire system, and all apps that support Resume will encourage users to continue their activities. I observed that once my system boots up and the taskbar loads, the Spotify icon appears almost instantly.

Interestingly, even without the Resume feature enabled, Spotify demonstrates its intelligence by recognizing when you are using the app on your phone. After disabling Resume and restarting my PC, I found that the Spotify widget still appeared on the lock screen. This is due to Spotify being added to your startup apps, which allows it to check for active playback on your phone automatically.

If you do not see this feature immediately, there’s no need for concern. Microsoft is currently in the global rollout phase for the Spotify Resume feature, so it will likely arrive on your device soon.
