Ultimate Guide on Catching Chickens and Collecting Eggs in Hytale

In Hytale, the absence of a conventional hunger system reduces the urgency of food gathering, yet a well-fed character offers numerous advantages. Nourishing meals can significantly enhance your health and stamina, making them beneficial to your gameplay. To prepare these wholesome dishes, you must first gather specific ingredients. One crucial component is eggs, which are not available in the wild. Instead, you must locate chickens and create a suitable habitat for them. This guide will walk you through the process of establishing your chicken farm, ensuring a steady supply of eggs.

Chickens can occasionally be found while exploring the forest and meadow biomes of Zone 1. Although they are not excessively abundant, you can usually spot a few while wandering through grassy areas. To ensure you have enough for your chicken farm, you can capture these chickens rather than trying to lure them back to your base.

To catch a chicken, you’ll need a Capture Crate, which can be crafted at the Farmer’s Workbench. Be sure to level up your workbench beforehand, gathering the necessary materials to do so. Once you have your Capture Crate ready, simply hold it and click the Left Mouse Button while facing a chicken. This action will confine the chicken within the crate, allowing you to transport it back home. To release the chicken, click the Left Mouse Button again at your base.

Building and Using Chicken Coops

Simply placing a chicken in your base may not suffice, as they could wander away or despawn over time. To keep your chickens in one spot and ensure they regularly produce eggs, you will need to construct a Chicken Coop.

Chicken Coops can also be crafted using the Farmer’s Workbench, requiring materials such as any type of wood, Essences of Life, and Plant Fibers. Once you have built a coop, place it close to your base and then release your chickens nearby. The game will automatically assign the chickens to the nearest coop, and they will remain there, potentially laying eggs for you.

Collecting Eggs from Your Chickens

Once housed in coops, chickens will lay one egg daily. You’ll know when eggs are ready to be collected by looking for a bag icon at the coop’s entrance. Each night, chickens will return to the coop to rest, and by morning, you can gather an egg from every chicken inside. You can accommodate up to six chickens per coop, which should suffice for creating nourishing meals in Hytale.

Interestingly, chickens may also lay eggs at random intervals throughout the day. Occasionally, you might discover extra eggs during visits to your coop, although this won’t be a frequent occurrence unless you have a large number of chickens. If you happen to have more than six chickens around one coop, the additional hens will still remain and may also produce eggs. However, it’s prudent to build additional coops to prevent any from vanishing.
