Ubisoft’s CEO Discusses Major Restructuring and Future Projects
Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, has broken his silence following the company’s significant financial restructuring at the start of 2026. This “major reset”led to extensive changes within the organization, including the termination of hundreds of developers across various studios and the closure of some branches.
In a recent interview with Variety, Guillemot sidestepped inquiries regarding the ongoing staff strikes within Ubisoft and did not provide new insights into the cancellation of key projects such as the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake. However, he did share developments related to notable franchises under the Ubisoft banner.
Upcoming Titles in the Far Cry Franchise
When discussing the Far Cry series, Guillemot revealed that two new games are currently in the works. One is expected to be Far Cry 7, while the other is likely to be Project Maverick, a multiplayer installment that fans have been anticipating for over three years.
“We have a robust pipeline at Vantage Studios. Within the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ brand, multiple titles are being developed, aiming to create both single-player and multiplayer experiences. Our goal is to expand the community, which surpassed 30 million players last year, ”Guillemot stated.“Regarding ‘Far Cry, ’ we have two very promising projects currently under development.”
Expanding Universes: Film and Television Adaptations
In further discussions about franchise expansions beyond gaming, Guillemot highlighted the upcoming Far Cry television series produced by FX and confirmed that the Watch Dogs film has wrapped production. He also expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Netflix series and the renewed second season of the Splinter Cell Deathwatch series.
Addressing Company Challenges
Overall, those hoping for a detailed account of Ubisoft’s recent struggles and the leadership’s plan for improvement may find Guillemot’s remarks somewhat unsatisfying.
Particularly controversial was his response to allegations of nepotism regarding the appointment of his son, Charlie Guillemot, as a co-leader at Vantage Studios.“Ubisoft started as a family company, and our rich heritage allows us to take a long-term view, emphasizing sustainable growth and creative ambition rather than short-term gains, ”Guillemot explained.“I firmly believe that Christophe Derennes and Charlie are ideally suited as co-CEOs of Vantage Studios, as they possess complementary strengths and relevant experience.”
While Derennes transitions from leading Ubisoft’s North American operations, Charlie Guillemot’s rapid ascent from college graduate to studio head—despite a troubled project history that included the cancellation of his studio’s debut game—raises eyebrows. Following that, he also dabbled in the NFT space before returning to Ubisoft to oversee crucial franchises.
