It appears that the risk of damaging your Ryzen 9800X3D is alarmingly high, with reports emerging of three CPUs failing in just a single day. Such incidents raise serious concerns among users and tech enthusiasts alike.
ASUS X870E and B850 Motherboards Associated with Multiple Ryzen 9800X3D Failures: User Experiences on Reddit
Two days prior, we highlighted two instances of dead Ryzen 9 9800X3D CPUs linked to ASUS motherboards. However, recent developments show that three more units have succumbed on the same day, with two using the same motherboard models as in the earlier reports. The third case involved an ASUS B850 chipset motherboard, indicating a troubling trend among Ryzen 9800X3D processors on ASUS boards. Notably, ASRock still records the highest number of failures in similar scenarios.

The first distressing account comes from u/TransitionEffective9, who initially suspected his motherboard was at fault. After trying a power supply swap along with various troubleshooting techniques without success, he removed his CPU only to discover burn marks on its surface. Despite the visual indicators of damage, the socket of the motherboard (ROG Crosshair X870 Hero) showed no signs of burning. Attempts to boot with a Ryzen 7800X3D further confirmed the demise of both the 9800X3D and the motherboard.

In another case, u/LexiSQ reported that their ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming motherboard caused the Ryzen 7 9800X3D to fail during a simple reboot. After encountering an error code “00”on a subsequent restart, it was confirmed that the CPU had been rendered unusable. The user speculated that bent pins could have been a contributing factor, though the CPU had functioned without issues for nearly six months prior to the incident.
Lastly, u/JGDraco reported a failure with their ASUS TUF B850M-Plus WiFi motherboard, also involving a dead Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Although deaths linked to B850 chipsets are reported less frequently, this user had been running their PC without issues for two months until it suddenly failed to boot. Upon inspection, the CPU was confirmed dead, adding to the recent surge of failures.
These three alarming reports within one day underscore a potential systemic issue with Ryzen 9800X3D CPUs on ASUS motherboards. Given this rapid escalation, ASUS may soon compete with ASRock for the highest number of reported CPU failures.
