1047 Games Revitalizes Splitgate with Arena Reloaded
Initially released to positive acclaim, the arena shooter Splitgate saw developer 1047 Games embark on an ambitious journey to launch a high-budget sequel in 2022. Fast forward to June 2025, the eagerly awaited Splitgate 2 made its debut as a free-to-play title for PC and consoles. However, player feedback swiftly led to a significant overhaul just one month later. In response to community concerns regarding the introduction of battle royale elements and the perceived lack of content, 1047 Games chose to revert the game back to beta status to refine and expand upon its features.
In an exciting announcement at the recent PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted event, 1047 Games unveiled the reimagined version of their sequel, now titled Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. The studio revealed extensive redevelopment efforts aimed at honoring the essence of classic arena shooters. Key alterations include a complete revamp of character mechanics and a stronger emphasis on traditional gameplay.
“Splitgate has always been a love letter to the arena shooters we grew up playing, ”stated Josh Watson, Design Director at 1047 Games.“We’ve been hard at work rebuilding the game from the ground up, taking the best of Splitgate 1 and Splitgate 2, removing what didn’t work, and refining what did.”
As part of its significant redesign, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded will feature a range of enhancements and new content. Here’s a look at the notable changes that fans can expect:
- Elimination of factions, character abilities, and select equipment to restore the focus on classic arena combat.
- Ground-up rebuild of the progression system, alongside an overhauled Ranked mode.
- Introduction of five new maps and revamped versions of six existing maps, complemented by three new primary weapons and a powerful Railgun.
- Launch of new arena modes, an enhanced playlist selection, and a dedicated Classic Arena mode that ensures equal starting conditions and power-ups.
- Streamlined store pricing, a simplified Battle Pass, and enhanced visual quality of cosmetic items.
Mark your calendars: Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is set to launch on December 17, making it available across multiple platforms, including PC (via Steam, Xbox Store, and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
