Solving the Pit of Silence Mirror Puzzle in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Guide

In Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, players face one of their earliest real challenges, not in a boss encounter, but through the intricate light-refracting puzzle located in the Pit of Silence. To progress and restore the Alltrades Abbey, the objective is to free the High Priestess Jacqueline, who is ensnared in a magical prison sustained by two towering crystals on the upper level.

If you find managing the mirror mechanics a bit tricky, you’re not alone. During my initial playthrough, I spent considerable time aligning the mirrors, leading me to create a detailed guide for correctly positioning them to successfully shatter both crystals and resume your quest.

How to Manipulate the Mirrors

Before diving into the puzzle, it’s important to note that the controls for the mirrors may feel somewhat cumbersome. To reposition a mirror, approach it and press the X / A / B button, based on your controller. You have the ability to drag the mirror both horizontally and vertically for perfect alignment.

For the best results, focus on the floor tiles. Mirrors snap into a grid, so if you’re having difficulty aligning the light beam, ensure that the base of the mirror is properly centered over a tile.

Breaking the First Crystal

The first crystal can be found on the right side of the chamber and functions as a tutorial for the puzzle mechanics. Successfully creating a straight path for the beam here involves aligning just a few mirrors.

Arrange the mirrors in the following configuration:

Breaking the Second Crystal

In contrast, the second crystal presents a greater challenge. This section of the puzzle requires utilizing the mirrors positioned on the far left of the room, forming a “snake”pattern with the light to navigate around central obstacles.

Follow this layout for the left-side mirrors:
