Rebel Wolves Targets 40-Hour RPG Experience with Blood of Dawnwalker, but Testers Report Up to 70 Hours of Gameplay

The Anticipated Scope of The Blood of Dawnwalker

Upon the announcement of The Blood of Dawnwalker, it was clear that its scale would not rival that of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. This is understandable, given that Rebel Wolves is a smaller studio compared to the renowned CD Projekt RED, creators of the acclaimed original.

Gameplay Expectations

So, what can players look forward to in terms of gameplay duration? According to a report from Gamereactor, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz disclosed that the game’s total content has exceeded initial expectations. Rather than the originally projected 40 hours for a standard playthrough, testing indicates an average range of 50 to 70 hours, contingent upon the level of exploration within the game’s expansive setting, Vale Sangora.

Variability in Playthrough Length

Tomaszkiewicz humorously highlighted the evolution of their planning: “Initially, we aimed for 40 hours, but now it’s around 50 on average. This varies significantly based on factors like game difficulty, meticulousness during gameplay, exploration, and gear upgrades.”Some testers have reported completion times varying significantly — from as few as 50 hours to as many as 70 hours.

Comparative Analysis with Other Titles

Interestingly, the lower end of this range aligns closely with the average playtime of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, which is reported at 51.5 hours for a storyline-focused experience according to How Long to Beat. However, CD Projekt RED’s epic included considerably more side quests, with completionist playthroughs extending up to 170 hours. For a debut title aimed at launching a franchise, The Blood of Dawnwalker‘s scope is commendable, particularly when compared to Obsidian’s recent offerings, Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, which may not match this level of content depth.

Future Gameplay Possibilities

As discussed previously, Tomaszkiewicz also emphasized that players can engage in a fully evil playthrough, a feature he is eager to see explored by gamers.

Release Date

Mark your calendars: The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to be released on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Stay tuned for detailed information on the PC system requirements.
