Quickly Farm Vocation Proficiency in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined: Tips from the Master of Alltrades

In Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, developing your character level is just one aspect of achieving greatness. A crucial component lies in mastering Vocations effectively. Although the game modernizes many features of the classic series, it omits a direct listing of the specific Proficiency Points needed to achieve the next rank, forcing players to rely on visual progress bars in their menus.

If your goal is to quickly master any Vocation without the excessive grinding, I’ve undertaken thorough testing to identify the most efficient farming methods available. Below, I present the optimal strategy to enhance your Vocations while ensuring a balanced gameplay experience.

Understanding Proficiency Points

Battles in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined generate significant Proficiency Points with appropriate setup.

During my tests, I used a level 20 party consisting of the Hero (Sailor), Maribel (Dancer), and Ruff (Warrior). I experimented with three different loops to determine the fastest method for leveling the three Vocations from Rank 1 to Rank 2, utilizing both Ultra Fast combat speed and the Auto-Battle feature.

Method Region Proficiency Settings Average Time
Land Loop 1 (Overworld combat, 1 Proficiency Point per victory) Frobisher Any 2m 05s
Land Loop 2 (Current level enemies, regular battles) Al-Balad More (+7 Pts) 1m 51s (Maribel) / 2m 30s (Others)
The Sea Loop (Weak Enemies, regular battles) Star Seas More (+7 Pts) 1m 20s (Maribel) / 1m 50s (Others)

Optimal Strategy: The Estard Sea Loop

Exploring the seas allows you to find enemies where they rarely appear on most islands.

The results were compelling. Although it’s possible to challenge weak enemies on the field without heading into the sea, utilizing the Estard Sea Loop emerged as the most efficient method to gather Proficiency Points swiftly. By setting your Proficiency Earned to More, you can consistently gain a robust 7 Proficiency Points when facing weak opponents. If those adversaries remain weaker than your party, the battles can conclude in mere seconds.

Maximizing Efficiency: Tips and Tricks

Optimal settings for efficient Vocation Proficiency farming.

To efficiently grind Vocation Proficiency, adjust your game settings for maximum speed. In the options menu, set the following:

  • Combat Speed: Ultra Fast
  • Experience Earned: Less (to prevent overleveling)
  • Damage Dealt: More (to expedite battles)
  • Proficiency Earned: More (increases the base from 5 to 7 points)
  • Monster Strength: Any (as enemies succumb quickly)

Always target weaker enemies to maximize your speed.Although defeating stronger foes yields more EXP, they pose a risk of overleveling your characters, particularly if you engage high-level enemies like Metal Slimes. Plus, these battles consume more time.

Once you locate a suitable area with weak enemies, avoid waiting for enemy symbols to respawn: utilize Ruff’s Whistle ability to jump from battle to battle swiftly, significantly accelerating your progress in mastering Vocations.

Unlocking the Moonlighting Bonus

Later in the game, after welcoming Aishe to your team, you can further enhance your strategy by speaking with the High Priestess at Alltrades Abbey to unlock the Moonlighting feature.

This system allows characters to equip a secondary Vocation. For any mastered Vocations, you will earn:

  • +3 Bonus Points toward the unmastered Vocation.
  • +1 Bonus Point for combat encounters.

Combining these bonuses with your optimized farming strategy enables you to master even the most challenging Vocations substantially quicker than usual.

This summary concludes this edition of the Master of Alltrades series, where we explore the complexities of the Vocation system.
