Enhanced Visuals and Performance in Housemarque’s Saros
Housemarque’s latest offering, Saros, is set to harness the advanced capabilities of the PlayStation 5 Pro alongside the highly anticipated PSSR 2 upscaler. This combination aims to provide gamers with stunning visuals that rival native 4K resolution, while maintaining a smooth 60 FPS gameplay experience. This intention aligns with the developer’s vision of pushing gaming technology to its absolute limits.
Technical Enhancements on PS5 Pro
Seppo Halonen, Housemarque’s technical director, explained the advancements, stating, “On PlayStation 5 Pro, we also increased our base render resolution, enhancing clarity before the upscaling process. This ensures that players on the PS5 Pro will enjoy an even crisper image at 60 FPS. Even with our use of dynamic resolution to ensure a stable frame rate during intense combat scenes, the PS5 Pro provides an undeniably sharper image in every scene.” For the full details, readers can refer to the Official PlayStation Blog.
Visual Quality: Quality Over Quantity
While Saros already performs exceptionally on the standard PS5, delivering a stable 60 FPS experience, the enhancements for the PS5 Pro take this performance up a notch. Halonen added, “We are optimizing graphics even further for the Pro version, making numerous subtle improvements in reflections and overall image quality. This upgrade doesn’t merely translate to increased pixel count; it also ensures that the integrity of the content rendered matches the heightened resolution.”Notably, the game will drop to 30 FPS during cutscenes to prioritize visual fidelity, facilitating high-quality rendering of characters, lighting, and post-processing effects—ultimately achieving peak resolution.
Immersive Audio and DualSense Features
In addition to visual improvements, the latest blog post from the Official PlayStation Blog reveals enhancements to the 3D audio features that build upon those introduced in Returnal. The integration of the DualSense controller’s capabilities, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, further contributes to an immersive gaming experience that engages players on multiple sensory levels.
Title Integration with PSSR 2
Saros stands as one of the pioneering titles to natively utilize PSSR 2, joining the ranks of other recent games such as Crimson Desert. Furthermore, games that initially implemented PSSR 1.0 will benefit from the new upscaling technology via a system-wide toggle. However, it’s important to note that this older version will not receive updates to support later versions of the upscaler, as clarified by PS5 system architect, Mark Cerny.
