Recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared an intriguing insight on the platform X, indicating that OpenAI might temporarily shift its focus away from these consumer gadgets to prioritize smartphone development.

Kuo outlined that OpenAI is currently collaborating with Qualcomm and MediaTek to design a bespoke smartphone processor. Luxshare is anticipated to play a crucial role as the primary assembler of the smartphone designed to rival Apple’s iPhones.

According to OpenAI’s ambitious vision, the future of smartphones will feature a departure from traditional app usage in favor of real-time AI agent inference powered by a mix of local and cloud computing. This concept envisions smartphones serving as comprehensive data repositories that effectively track a user’s “full real-time state, ”manage memory hierarchies, and provide necessary processing power for immediate AI tasks, with complex calculations delegated to the cloud.
