An engineering prototype motherboard equipped with NVIDIA’s forthcoming N1 System on Chip (SoC), designed specifically for AI-powered laptops, has emerged on the internet.

A user has taken to the Chinese resale platform Goofish to showcase an engineering sample of a motherboard featuring the much-anticipated NVIDIA N1 SoC. This processor is pivotal for NVIDIA’s foray into the AI-driven PC market, and it promises to fully support Microsoft’s Windows operating system, along with its Copilot+ functionalities.

According to the information shared by the seller, this motherboard remains in the early stages of development. Its compact design hints at suitability not just for laptops, but also for lightweight, high-performance tablets, reflecting the versatile nature of the N1 SoC.

Upon closer inspection, the N1 SoC stands out as the dominant component on the motherboard, bearing a resemblance to NVIDIA’s GB10 silicon utilized in the Spark AI systems. The motherboard is also outfitted with eight LPDDR5X memory modules, providing a substantial total of 128 GB of RAM, alongside an advanced 8+6+2 phase VRM (voltage regulator module) design.

The design incorporates two M.2 slots with dimensions corresponding to a 2240 form factor. Additionally, the motherboard features a range of I/O ports, complemented by an integrated Wi-Fi chip, along with ample PCB traces that leave room for future I/O enhancements.

The anticipated cooling solution likely involves a large blower-style fan noticed through the cut-out design, with the NVIDIA N1 SoC expected to be mounted under a dedicated heatsink. However, such items often have negotiable prices, suggesting potential for a lower final cost.
