New Xbox CEO Accused of Using AI Bot on X and Creating Gamertag in Previous Month

Turbulent Times at Microsoft’s Xbox Division

The Xbox division at Microsoft is experiencing significant upheaval following the unexpected departure of long-serving CEO Phil Spencer and current president Sarah Bond on Friday. Spencer is stepping down due to retirement, while Bond is exploring new career opportunities outside of Microsoft.

Introducing the New Leadership: Asha Sharma

Microsoft Gaming has appointed Asha Sharma as its new CEO. This decision is causing a stir among gaming enthusiasts, as Sharma, at 36, lacks prior experience in the gaming industry. Her career path is notable, marking her second tenure at Microsoft. After joining the company in 2011 as part of the Marketing team for two years, she transitioned to other ventures including serving as COO at Porch Group and taking roles at Meta, where she led product initiatives across Messenger and Instagram Direct.

Sharma’s Background and Concerns

In 2021, she further developed her professional expertise by becoming COO at Instacart. Following three years there, Sharma returned to Microsoft to oversee the CoreAI product portfolio, focusing on AI models, applications, and developer tools.

While her experience in tech is substantial, many gamers express apprehensions regarding her previous work in Microsoft’s AI division. Anticipating these concerns, Sharma emphasized in her inaugural statement that:

We will not chase short-term efficiency or flood our ecosystem with soulless AI slop.

Engaging with the Gaming Community

Sharma has also made headlines by publicly sharing her Gamertag, which was created just last month. Despite its recent activation, it already shows a commendable amount of playtime. In a tweet, she humorously acknowledged that she’s “no Phil Spencer, ”suggesting she may not match the gaming expertise of her predecessor.

Looking Forward: What Lies Ahead for Xbox

Ultimately, as the saying goes, “the proof is in the pudding.”If Xbox can deliver outstanding hardware and software, any initial doubts could quickly dissipate. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Xbox, and the lineup is promising with titles like Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Gears of War: E-Day, although these projects were largely developed under the previous leadership.

As the gaming community watches closely, the real test for Asha Sharma will be how effectively she leads the brand into its next chapter.
