In a somber turn of events, Spiders, the esteemed studio behind titles like Greedfall and Steelrising, has officially ceased operations. This closure follows reports of the company’s impending shutdown after their parent entity, Nacon, was unable to secure a buyer in light of Spiders’ recent insolvency filing. Despite facing financial challenges—alongside the insolvency of three additional subsidiaries—Nacon has announced the continuation of its Nacon Connect event, which is scheduled to take place in May 2026, affirming earlier commitments made when the event was postponed earlier this year.
Nacon Connect Showcase Details
The much-anticipated Nacon Connect showcase will occur on May 7, 2026, at 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST / 7 PM BT / 8 PM CET. Attendees can look forward to thrilling announcements about upcoming games, insights into the latest innovations in gaming accessories, and exclusive gameplay previews of exciting titles, including The Mound, Edge of Memories, and Endurance Motorsport Series. Notably, the showcase will include Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish, a title unveiled just last month during the Xbox Partner Preview event.
Event Lineup Changes
Interestingly, the lineup for this showcase differs from the original plans made in early March 2026, as the previous announcement mentioned Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, a Lovecraftian detective game that released in April. This omission indicates a shift in focus for Nacon, as the studio adapts to its evolving circumstances.
Nacon’s Current Status
Despite the announcement of the event, Nacon has refrained from providing additional insights into its insolvency status, simply stating, “Sorry for the delay… but we’re finally back”on their social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). An updated teaser for the event has been released, sparking mixed emotions within the gaming community.
Concerns Among Gamers
While there’s optimism surrounding Nacon’s resilience, the uncertainty looming over the showcase dampens excitement. With the specter of potential shutdowns affecting both Nacon and its subsidiaries, many viewers are left wondering about the future of the showcased titles. Following Spiders’ closure, concerns about whether the featured games will successfully launch linger heavily in the minds of fans.
Three of Nacon’s subsidiaries currently find themselves in insolvency proceedings. Should Nacon fail to find buyers for these studios, they too could face a fate similar to Spiders. If no suitable buyers emerge soon, the fate of these subsidiaries may be revealed before the showcase, further amplifying anticipation and anxiety among gaming enthusiasts.
As viewers prepare to tune in for the showcase, their anxiety regarding studio stability may overshadow the excitement for the new games.
