Microsoft to Raise Prices on All Surface Laptop Models; Flagship Version Could Experience Up to $500 Increase

The laptop market is currently facing a significant downturn as nearly all major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) announce price increases for their products. This trend has notably impacted laptops, particularly in the early part of 2026.

Microsoft’s Justification for Surface Price Increases

In light of the ongoing surge in the cost of RAM and SSDs, Microsoft has recently declared a price increase for its entire Surface lineup. As reported by Windows Central, this adjustment affects both the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro series, marking the latest in a series of price revisions by major OEMs during this quarter. Microsoft is not alone; many vendors have adjusted their pricing structures at least once this year.

The Microsoft Surface series has historically offered powerful configurations that cater to budget-conscious consumers. However, due to the latest price hikes, the entry point for these laptops has risen significantly, with even the most affordable configuration now exceeding $1, 000.

Microsoft’s rationale for this price increase centers around the persistent inflation of component costs, particularly related to memory and solid-state drives (SSDs).Currently, just two Surface devices hold a price tag below $1, 000, both of which have seen an increase in cost by $250 to $300. These include the 12-inch Surface Pro and the 13-inch Surface Laptop, which previously retailed at $799 and $899 in 2025 and will now be priced at $1, 049 and $1, 199, respectively.

For mid-range options like the Surface Pro 13-inch, customers can expect a $500 uptick compared to the original launch price. This device experienced a $200 price rise last year, and now faces an additional increase of $300. With a Snapdragon X Plus processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a choice of 256 or 512 GB SSD, this model stands as one of the costliest Surface offerings to date. Similarly, other models such as the 13.8-inch and 15-inch Surface Laptops have also seen their prices escalate, with price tags approaching $1, 599.
