Microsoft Teams Introduces Immersive Events: A New Era of Virtual Collaboration
In a significant development, Microsoft has rolled out its immersive events feature in Teams, initially announced in July. This innovative 3D virtual environment enhances user interaction, allowing participants to communicate through personalized 3D avatars, effectively bridging the gap of remote collaboration.
Customizable Brand Experiences for Teams Admins
Teams admins now have the capability to craft immersive events that reflect their brand identity. Utilizing a built-in Editor utility, admins can incorporate logos, images, and unique text into their events. For those seeking efficiency, pre-designed 3D templates are available, streamlining the setup process. Additionally, the sophisticated Action groups feature enables dynamic interactions, including animations, music, and visual transitions, fostering an engaging atmosphere for all attendees.
Accessibility and Requirements for Participation
This immersive experience is accessible via Windows PCs, Macs, and the Meta Quest VR headset, providing flexibility for users. Microsoft emphasizes that its offerings are backed by “enterprise-ready VR deployment, ”along with robust identity management, security, and privacy protocols through Microsoft 365. It’s important for potential hosts to note that a commercial Teams license, complemented by the premium Teams add-on, is required to create these immersive events, though participants can join with a standard Teams license. Immersive events are versatile and can be used for various purposes, including standard meetings, large-scale events, and all-hands sessions.
Phasing Out Microsoft Mesh
In response to the successful integration of immersive events, Microsoft has decided to discontinue Microsoft Mesh as a separate platform. Starting today, customers will no longer have access to Mesh events or the “Immersive space (3D)”view within Teams. The dedicated mesh.cloud.microsoft site will also be deactivated. For those eligible to utilize immersive events, creating one is straightforward: simply navigate to the Teams calendar and select Immersive event in the New event window.
