Microsoft Launches Windows 11 26H1 Exclusively for New Devices; Windows 11 26H2 Update Available for All PCs

Microsoft has stirred up the Windows community with its recent announcement regarding the rollout of Windows 11 26H1. This new version, confirmed by the company through Windows Latest, is not designed for existing PCs; instead, it is exclusively intended for new devices equipped with Snapdragon X2 processors.

On February 10, 2026, known as Patch Tuesday, Microsoft initiated updates across multiple supported versions of Windows, including Windows 11 25H2, 24H2, and Windows 10 under Extended Security Updates (ESU).

Among the updates, a specific Windows 11 26H1 update identified as “KB5077179” was observed. However, it’s crucial to note that this update cannot be installed on existing Intel or AMD devices, as Windows 11 26H1 is incompatible with even the latest Ultra 7 155H systems and Panther Lake architectures. Its functionality is limited to newer, ARM-based platforms, specifically those utilizing Snapdragon X2 technology.

In an official support document, Microsoft highlighted that the rollout of Windows 11 26H1 involves advancements in silicon designed to enhance performance and extend battery life for devices utilizing this new architecture.

“Windows 11, version 26H1 is available only on new devices with select new silicon as they become available starting early 2026, ” Microsoft stated in an updated documentation. Furthermore, they emphasized, “PCs running earlier versions of Windows 11 will not receive an update to version 26H1 through Windows Update and cannot install it as an in-place upgrade.”

Potential Inclusion of Nvidia N1X Support

While Snapdragon X2 is the primary focus for Windows 11 26H1, there are indications that the update may also support the anticipated ARM-based Nvidia N1X chips.

Nvidia’s N1X has been in development for a considerable time and was initially slated for launch last year. However, delays reportedly were caused by software complications, with supply chain analysts suggesting a potential arrival in Q1 2026 seems increasingly improbable.

Reports from Moore’s Law Is Dead indicate that Microsoft is not expediting optimization for the N1X chips due to these ongoing software issues. While Windows 11 26H1 is primarily crafted for upcoming silicon, it may possibly cater to Nvidia’s N1X chips in the future.

Microsoft has confirmed that the development of Windows 11 26H1 was conducted in close collaboration with partners such as Qualcomm, focusing mainly on performance enhancements and battery optimizations, rather than introducing new features. Consequently, users who continue with Windows 11 version 25H2 will not miss out on any major updates.

Looking Ahead: Windows 11 26H2 Set for Late 2026

In addition to the news about version 26H1, Microsoft confirmed its commitment to the annual feature update strategy for Windows 11. This signifies that a fall update is on its way for existing hardware.

Microsoft noted, “Windows 11, version 26H1 is built on a different Windows core than versions 24H2 and 25H2, rendering them eligible for a future upgrade path.”

According to Windows Latest, the next update scheduled for current PCs will be Windows 11 26H2, which has been referenced in preview builds. This aligns with Microsoft’s announcements stating that Windows 11 26H2 is expected to be released later in 2026.

It is anticipated that Windows 11 26H2 will roll out to all eligible existing PCs by October 2026. However, devices featuring the Snapdragon X2 and Nvidia N1X will continue running on version 26H1.
