On December 20, former f(x) member Luna captivated audiences as she took center stage in the musical “Mali, ”held at Seoul’s Baekam Art Hall. The talented 32-year-old performer embraced the lead character of Mali, a once-famous child star navigating the complexities of a contemporary, ordinary life.

A Journey of Self-Discovery

Luna’s portrayal of Mali was both poignant and powerful, capturing the essence of a young woman reflecting on her past. Throughout the performance, Mali confronts her once-glamorous existence, allowing the audience to experience her transformation into a doll named Levi—a significant and symbol-laden connection to her former self. This touching narrative explores themes of reconciliation and embracing one’s true identity.

Vocal Mastery and Stage Presence

Critics have lauded Luna’s vocal prowess throughout the show, noting her remarkable ability to shift seamlessly from soaring high notes to tender, lyrical melodies. Her chemistry with fellow cast members, particularly those embodying Young Mali and Levi, significantly enriched the storytelling experience, creating a compelling dynamic on stage.

Milestones in Musical Theatre

The opening of “Mali”marks a significant chapter in Luna’s growing musical theatre journey. With previous impressive roles in productions like “Mamma Mia!”, “Hamlet, ”and “TokTok, ”Luna continues to expand her artistic repertoire, showcasing her versatility beyond her roots in K-pop.

Gratitude and Hope

Following the successful premiere, Luna took a moment to express her gratitude to the audience. She conveyed her aspirations for the musical, stating, “I hope that all the Malis in the world can find comfort and courage through this story, and be able to exist as themselves in a challenging world.”

Continuing the Musical Legacy

The musical “Mali”will be performed at Baekam Art Hall until February 15, 2026, offering audiences the opportunity to experience Luna’s remarkable talent continuously.

Luna’s Evolution in Music

Luna first gained recognition as the main vocalist and lead dancer of f(x), a groundbreaking K-pop group that debuted in September 2009 alongside members Victoria, Amber, Krystal, and Sulli. Over ten years, the group released critically acclaimed projects, including the influential albums “Pink Tape”and “4 Walls, ”solidifying their legacy within the genre.

However, the group gradually stepped back from the limelight after 2016 as members pursued their individual careers. Sulli’s departure in 2015 to focus on acting marked a pivotal change for the group. In 2019, the remaining members chose not to renew their contracts with SM Entertainment, effectively concluding their collective activities. Subsequently, Luna established her own label, Grida Entertainment, paving a new path for her career.
